What do you reckon, Newcastle fans? Has Alan Pardew allowed Curtis Good to leave knowing he is bringing in somebody else as defensive cover?

  3. DONE DEALpublished at 09:47 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2014

    Transfer deadline day

Dundee United agree the loan signing of 20-year-old Newcastle United central defender Curtis Good until the end of the season.

"Curtis comes to us highly recommended and from a well respected club," said Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara. "He is left-footed and can play as either a central defender or left back. These are areas that require cover and it was important this was addressed during the window."

  4. Lawro's Verdictpublished at 09:44 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2014

    Lawro on Manchester City:

"Manchester City are reportedly in for two Porto players - centre-back Eliaquim Mangala and midfielder Fernando as well.

"I am not sure they need another midfielder but as far as centre-backs go, I would argue they should take two and gamble on at least one of them fitting in alongside Vincent Kompany.

"That way they can let Joleon Lescott go. Matija Nastasic has been a little bit indifferent this season and I just do not think Martin Demichelis is good enough."

Stijn De Nys:, external To be honest, I think Everton had a great window already: McGeady and Traore are good transfers, if you ask me. Hope Liverpool can pull a late 'big one' over the line, would certainly help their top four hopes. And my nerves too, really..

Warren Killen:, external Do not understand why Spurs would want Berbatov back, he is past his best and we need to bring in new, young blood!

BBC Sport's Luke Reddy: "Swansea are intent on doing business on deadline day. Last week, the Welsh side enquired about Norwich winger Anthony Pilkington and a wide man remains their primary target. We also understand Harry Redknapp will be as busy as ever on transfer deadline day, with new faces imminent at QPR."

  7. The madness of Deadline Daypublished at 09:40 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2014

"There is a man on my telly standing outside The Den in a suit speaking fast and portentously without full stops or commas and with lots of superlatives.

"I'm scared because there is also a clock counting down in the bottom right-hand corner, so something important must be about to happen like the arrival of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse, but it turns out Shaun Batt has joined Leyton Orient from Millwall instead. On loan."

The phenomena of Deadline Day is madness, says our very own Ben Dirs. Of course it is, especially when, as Dirs points out, the windows "were introduced in 2002-03 in part to stabilise the game."

They certainly haven't achieved that, but we do now at least get two opportunities a year to wait for Harry Redknapp's car window to wind down.

  8. Don't believe the hypepublished at 09:38 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2014

Owen Bradley, BBC Radio Derby sports reporter: "Expecting a quiet day at Derby County, who wrapped up their January dealings with the signing of George Thorne from West Brom on Thursday. Steve McClaren is much more likely to try and bring a defender in once the emergency loan window opens.

"To the relief of Derby fans, the Will Hughes hype seems to have calmed down. It would be a real surprise if the talented midfielder left the club before the window closes."

  9. Where will Ince end up?published at 09:37 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2014

We are hearing that Blackpool's Tom Ince and his advisor/father are not interested in a permanent move anywhere at this stage and are trying to push through a loan move.

However, it is understood that with Ince out of contract in the summer, Blackpool are only interested in a permanent deal.

Crystal Palace and Swansea were the only two teams given official permission to talk to Ince last week but the Welsh club have since withdrawn their interest. Several other clubs - including Stoke - have also been linked with him.

Ince has not trained with Blackpool all week and it is my no means certain a deal will be done today. Could he end up back at the club that recently sacked his father?

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is currently doing a news conference, where he has confirmed that midfielder Aaron Ramsey has been ruled out for six weeks. As a result, the Gunners boss says he would like to bring in one player during the course of the day - but it won't be Julian Draxler. The Frenchman added that he would like to "scrap" the winter transfer window because 80% of activity tends to happen on the final day.

  12. Southampton latestpublished at 09:26 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2014

    BBC Sport's Ben Smith

"Southampton's record signing Dani Osvaldo has travelled to Italy ahead of a proposed loan move to Juventus.

"The clubs remain in talks over a deal for Osvaldo but Juventus will have an option to buy the player for £15m at the end of the season.

"The striker has been suspended by Southampton since instigating a training ground fight with his teammate Jose Fonte last week."

  13. Savage Sayspublished at 09:25 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2014

BBC pundit and former Premier League enforcer Robbie Savage has spilled the beans on what a transfer move is really like for players.

You can watch the video here, and I'll bring you some of his choice cuts.

Savage on team-mates: "The biggest worry I had about moving clubs was meeting my new team-mates. I was an idiot on the pitch at times and then when I walked into the new dressing room it was like the first day at school. Where can I sit? Who have I upset? Where is my locker?"

  14. Meanwhile in Spain...published at 09:23 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2014

In case you missed it amid all the transfer news, an interesting story played out in Spain last night when Racing Santander's players forced the abandonment of their Copa del Rey quarter-final against Real Sociedad by refusing to play because they had not been paid.

When the second leg kicked off, the Santander players huddled together on the edge of the centre circle and would not challenge for the ball.

The protest is expected to cost Santander their place in the competition, although Sociedad had already won the first leg 3-1.

"They're quoting his agent Ulisses Santos, who claims he has spoken to Alan Pardew about the player.

"Djuricic has won 15 caps for Serbia and scored against Wales in a World Cup qualifier back in 2012."
