The 19-year-old will be loaned back to the Evo-Stik South club until the end of the season.

Lawro on Liverpool: "Liverpool have been linked with Ukraine winger Yevhen Konoplyanka, who plays for Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk. I have seen him a few times and he is not bad at all. Over the last couple of years he has looked really good when he has played for his country. I would be more worried about how he settles into English football and in England because from Sergei Rebrov to Andriy Shevchenko, not many players have come over from Ukraine and done well in the Premier League. Look at Andriy Voronin, who was at Anfield from 2007 to 2010, and struggled too.

"If Liverpool are paying £15m-plus for Konoplyanka, it represents a bit of a gamble but everybody is different. If they get the player we see playing for Ukraine and Dnipro then great - but I just hope he settles in."

"Manchester City's move for Mangala and Fernando - with fees expected to be in the region of £35m if the deals can be done in time - underlines their financial clout.

"With no significant departures expected from the Etihad today the transfers would push the club's overall wage bill even higher.

"Club accounts revealed this week that City paid out £233m in salaries in 2012/13. Broken down that works out at £19.4m per month or £639,000 per day or £26,600 an hour or £443 a minute."

"Manchester City are understandably cagey about their deadline day activity, especially as Paris St-Germain are very interested in Porto's defender Eliaquim Mangala.

"But make no mistake, he is a player they want and the quicker the better to head off competition elsewhere. If he comes in this might allow Joleon Lescott to move out on loan. Porto team-mate Fernando is also right on City's radar.

"Everton manager Roberto Martinez insisted it would be a quiet day but he has moved for Sparta Prague's teenage keeper Jindrich Stanek and will also consider bringing in a midfield player on loan. It is the start of a long day."

  9. Ridsdale's viewpublished at 08:05 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2014

Former Leeds chairman Peter Ridsdale has told BBC Sport his Deadline Day dos and don'ts.

Step one is find the fax machine, but there are some other key points for clubs to lock down.

He said: "If a player doesn't want to play for you, the best you can do is get the best price for the club. A classic example was when I sold Rio Ferdinand at Leeds. He returned from the 2002 World Cup and came into my office on his first day back and said he wanted to go to Manchester United.

"Once we knew he was going, the cat and mouse game is how much can you get for him. Ultimately we got £30m. It was difficult. Once you know the player is going and where he wants to go to, how do you push the price up so the other club don't say 'we know he's coming to us so we'll keep the price depressed'? But we managed to get them from an initial bid of £18m to up to £30m so it was a job well done."

The clock continues to tick, but we've not had a single transfer confirmed as yet. However, that could all be about to change as club offices up and down the country open for business. I can picture the scene now - Premier League managers checking the fax machine has ink and paper and club secretaries loading themselves up on coffee. And Big Sam tucking into an egg butty.

"Transfer deadline day just wouldn't be the same without Arsenal making a late foray into the market. The Gunners have been linked with a loan move for Juventus striker Mirko Vucinic, while across north London Tottenham are open to the possibility of letting midfielder Lewis Holtby leave, most likely on loan.

"Reports suggest he could join Fulham in a deal that would see striker Dimitar Berbatov go in the opposite direction and rejoin his former club. Staying in the capital, Crystal Palace are working to sign a goalkeeper and centre-back - the latter could be Ivan Ramis if the Wigan defender lowers his wage demands. If the right opportunity arises for the Eagles to sign a striker, they are also ready to do that."

As for Everton, their need for fresh blood seems to have increased since both Bryan Oviedo and Romelu Lukaku picked up injuries in the last week. Surely Toffees fans will be pleased with a window as good as last August when they brought in James McCarthy, Gareth Barry and Lukaku?

I must admit, I'm very surprised Arsenal haven't gone for a big-name striker considering the undoubted impact Mesut Ozil's arrival had on the club. And now they have been overtaken at the top of the table by Manchester City, you sense it might take something special for them to reclaim first place from Manuel Pellegrini's men. Thoughts?

  15. Lawro's January shopping listpublished at 07:50 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2014

Back at Christmas, we asked Lawro for his Premier League shopping list - who needed who, and why?

A month on, many of the deals have been struck, but there are some clubs who have not made much of an inroad into the market yet.

Here are a few choice cuts from Lawro's list:

Arsenal - they need a striker. Lawro said: "Why not try to go for it in January and try to get whoever they are looking at in then? They undoubtedly have the money and the worst case scenario is that if the new man does not settle in straight away then he will be ready by next August rather than trying to settle in then."

Everton - "They clearly do not need any drastic surgery to their squad but they could do with another striker."

Man City - "Their squad looks very strong in every area apart from centre-back where they have problems whenever Vincent Kompany is injured.

"Martin Demichelis has not convinced me and it is clear the manager Manuel Pellegrini does not fancy Joleon Lescott much either."

  17. What to expectpublished at 07:47 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2014

    BBC Sport's Ben Smith

"Look a little closer and you soon see there is a strong possibility that fax machines across Europe could be in for a day they won't forget in a hurry. At the top of the table, Liverpool are working hard to bring in one more, while down at the bottom, West Ham are shopping for a bargain.

"The Hammers are trying to hijack Fulham's attempts to sign the Greek striker Konstandinos Mitroglou. The Olympiakos player underwent the first part of his medical with Fulham yesterday and further tests are planned today before an £11m deal is completed.

"But West Ham remain determined to add a striker, as well as a defender, to their squad before tonight's deadline.

"And they are now exploring the possibility of pinching Mitroglou from under Fulham's noses. St Etienne striker Max Gradel is another target."

BBC pundit and former Premier League enforcer Robbie Savage has spilled the beans on what a transfer move is really like for players.

You can watch the video here, and I'll bring you some of his choice cuts.

Savage on moving clubs: "The medical can last two days. Scans, x-rays, blood tests, it's real rigorous stuff. Clubs want to know you are in tip-top condition and it's a real relief when you pass it.

"Moving is a huge thing in your family's life. Will your wife like it there? Will she make new friends? It's easy for the player, you're lucky to have the routine. Your wife can be left in the house knowing nobody. When I moved to Derby my wife refused to move, she stayed in the North West."
