  1. Could Kallstrom hold the key?published at 19:15 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2014

BBC World Service's Steve Crossman reports: In Kim Kallstrom, Arsenal are getting a player I wish had left Lyon for the Premier League nearly four years ago.

In April 2010 his Champions League season ended at the semi-final stage after defeat to Bayern Munich.

Along with Miralem Pjanic, who went on to star for AS Roma, he had been an important figure in the success of a Lyon side which had earlier ousted Manuel Pellegrini's Real Madrid over two legs.

He's mobile, he can play anywhere across the midfield and he takes a mean free kick.

I'd expect him to slot effortlessly into the Arsenal side but at 31, his best years are clearly behind him.

"Liverpool were up until the early hours last night trying to arrange the transfer details, but the owner just does not want to sell. Remember, they are a few hours ahead of us in Ukraine. But Yevhen Konoplyanka is such a talented player."

  3. No deal for Valdespublished at 19:07 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2014

This is not a transfer story for deadline day, more one for the summer. It's still interesting though, because rumours that Barcelona are back in talks with Victor Valdes regarding a new contract have been denied by the Spanish champions.

The 32-year-old goalkeeper, who has spent his entire career with the club, was rumoured to have re-started negotiations about continuing his career at Camp Nou.

But Barce, who are interested in replacing him with Borussia Monchengldbach stopper Marc-Andre ter Stegen (that's actually his name, not my bad typing), have denied there have been any further talks.

As it stands, Valdes will leave the club at the end of the season.

Jorje Godson Odili:, external As an Arsenal fan I'm beginning to wonder whether we are not a club but a business model. We have an economist as a coach.

TomskAleShop:, external Not all Liverpool fans are frustrated today. No new players are needed to finish top four this season. Keeping Suarez is our only priority.

James Barnes:, external You know something is wrong with football when Southampton are loaning players to Juventus...

  5. FOUR HOURS REMAININGpublished at 19:01 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2014

Four hours to go. 240 minutes remaining for any transfers to go through.

Are we going to get any? The 'Done Deal' graphic has had a long rest. Mind you, Sheikh Mansour had only just bought Man City this time on Deadline Day in August 2008 and they still ended up with Robinho...

Arsenal fans, you may have a new signing confirmed soon then...

  7. Postpublished at 18:56 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2014

    BBC Sport's David Ornstein

"Kallstrom medical and terms all sorted at Arsenal - on loan to end of season. Deal being processed as we speak, confirmation to follow."

  8. Konoplyanka latestpublished at 18:54 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2014

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy on BBC News Channel

"Yevhen Konoplyanka would be a terrific signing for Liverpool. I've played against him and he has great feet as well as a physical presence - he has the capability to adapt quickly. He will add creativity to that Liverpool team.

"I'll be surprised if Tom Ince goes anywhere permanently today. He's a superb talent - his assists and goals in the Championship have been great and he's very much in demand. And he'll be a welcome addition at any of those clubs near the bottom because of his creativity."

Crystal Palace confirm that Wales international defender Darcy Blake has left the club by mutual consent. Are the Eagles freeing up some wage budget for a late splash?

Some major developments on the Lee Cattermole deal - which has been called off.

Club captain Cattermole is going nowhere, and he'll be a Sunderland player when the window closes. Do Stoke have time to find a replacement?

  12. Craig Gardner latestpublished at 18:46 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2014

    West Brom

BBC radio 5 live's Pat Murphy reports that West Brom are trying to sign the Sunderland midfielder Craig Gardner. If it goes through Albion would be the third Premier League club from the West Midlands that the Birmingham-born Gardner has played for, after Aston Villa and Birmingham.

I can't imagine new West Brom boss Pepe Mel knows a huge amount about him but he's a proven midfielder.

  13. Liverpool latestpublished at 18:44 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2014

    Liverpool

BBC Sport's Andy Swiss at Anfield: "Brendan Rodgers said in his press conference earlier on today that the transfer of Yevhen Konoplyanka is a little bit complicated. But the winger is a talented player, a Ukrainian international who played against England recently and scored a stunning goal at Wembley. And he can play on either flank, so he's very versatile.

"Liverpool fans will want to see a player arrive - some of them are frustrated at a lack of activity in this transfer window."

  14. Osvaldo updatepublished at 18:42 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2014

    Southampton

    OsvaldoImage source, juventus.com

Southampton's purchase of Dani Osvaldo hasn't exactly gone to plan, but at least they are not losing money on the volatile Italian.

Juventus have confirmed that the loan deal "also includes the option, to be exercised before 13 May, for the purchase of the player's full registration rights at a price of 19 million euros, to be paid over the course of three years".

That deal would be worth £15.6m to Southampton and the reigning Serie A champions will pay his wages in full during the loan.

That is good business, you have to say...

  15. Postpublished at 18:38 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2014

BBC Radio 5 live senior football reporter Ian Dennis

"There haven't been any big-money deals today, though there have been loan deals aplenty. Liverpool's pursuit of Yevhen Konoplyanka could go down to the wire - the Dnipro owner is not keen to sell.

"Lee Cattermole is a deal that could go through to Stoke, while Craig Gardner could be moving back to the Midlands at West Brom."

  16. Real or no Realpublished at 18:38 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2014

BBC Sport's Saj Chowdhury: "Real Madrid tell the BBC that they don't expect any arrivals or departures before the transfer window shuts. The Spanish giants spent more than £130m in the summer, including a world record £85m for Gareth Bale from Tottenham."

  17. Bye bye Cabayepublished at 18:38 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2014

As if today hadn't been quiet enough for Newcastle fans, we can rub a bit of salt into the wounds with the news that former midfielder Yohan Cabaye has been named on the bench for new club Paris St-Germain tonight, with the French champions facing Bordeaux this evening.

    They didn't even need him...
