Instantaneously, action at City. A prolonged spell of pressure ends with David Silva firing a volley over the bar. You expect the Spaniard to do better there...
Liverpool want a penalty! Lovely flowing move ends with Raheem Sterling bursting into the box, Mathieu Debuchy shuts the door on him and the England winger goes down - but there's nothing doing from referee Phil Dowd.
BBC Sport's Chris Bevan at Etihad Stadium
"The Manchester City fans may be nervous but they began the game by making an incredible din and have kept the volume up in the opening minutes. There has not been that much for them to shout about in terms of home chances but, importantly, West Ham have not got near Joe Hart's goal either."
Norwich have started brightly against Arsenal with Robert Snodgrass taking on Kieran Gibbs and winning a corner. All too little, too late for the doomed Canaries though.
West Brom went close early on against Stoke with Stephane Sessegnon poking against the post from close range in a crowded penalty area.
Big Shola is putting himself about! The striker has the first effort on target at Anfield, flicking in a header which is easy for Simon Mignolet to hold on to.
Everton in front - Steven Naismith playing in James McCarthy whose powerful shot from 12 yards beats Allan McGregor, despite the returning Hull keeper getting a hand to it.
Manchester United are lucky not to concede a penalty when Nemanja Vidic appears to handle the ball while Southampton's Adam Lallana was in the process of controlling it. Mike Dean isn't interested though.
Daniel Sturridge almost gets in behind the Newcastle defence - but the flag is up. He is just offside.
Sunderland's Great Escape celebration hits a hiccup as Wayne Routledge's pass inside Phil Bardsley is collected by Nathan Dyer who scoops a neat finish past Vito Mannone.
I don't think the home fans are that bothered.
Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown on Final Score
"Straight away West Ham are camped in their own box, looking to soak up pressure and hit long balls to Andy Carroll. But you can feel the the nerves and tension from here. It's hardly an easy job for City, and the rain is lashing down. There could be a slip or an error, which just adds to the tension."
Pablo Zabaleta was the outlet for Manchester City against a packed defence in midweek - and the right-back again overlaps to great success, finding space to ping a cross into the side-netting. Pretty low-key opening for City though.
A glorious chance for Chelsea to take the lead at Cardiff, with Fernando Torres rounding goalkeeper David Marshall but the striker takes too long with his shot and Steven Caulker gets back to make a superb clearance. Tottenham have also started brightly against Aston Villa - with Harry Kane heading straight at Brad Guzan from eight yards out.
Danny Mills
at Etihad Stadium for BBC Radio 5 live
"That fact that Man City don't have to win this game is crucial, vital. They will just be able to play their normal style today, and they believe they will score at some point in this game. The pressure is off, and that's all thanks to that Crystal Palace v Liverpool result."
"It's absolutely pouring down here now, but I can't see it raining on Manchester City's parade."
The first sight of goal at Anfield comes from a Newcastle man - Shola Ameobi heads wide from a Vurnon Anita corner. An early goal for Newcastle would really deflate the day...
BBC Sport's David Ornstein at Anfield
"Dr Steve Peters has just taken his seat in front of the press box, where we're joined by former Reds goalkeeper Chris Kirkland and his daughter. The Newcastle supporters are also making their presence known, but all eyes today are on the title-chasing hosts."
Right on cue, the rain starts howling down once more at the Etihad. A nice greasy surface for the hosts, who start in confident mood. As you'd expect.
BBC Radio 5 live are reporting that Norwich striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel has stormed out of Carrow Road and headed to the airport. The Dutchman had been left out of the matchday squad by interim manager Neil Adams.
Is that the last we see of him at Norwich?
