  1. Marching on in 2014published at 11:50 British Summer Time 11 May 2014

Once 2014 was ushered in, Manchester City were pretty relentless in their quest of Premier League glory, while also lifting the Capital One Cup in March.

There were blips, with Chelsea becoming the only team to beat the Blues at the Etihad so far with a superb victory in February, while defeat to Liverpool was not part of the plan.

However, the 2011-12 champions have never really lost too much ground on the leaders and they were able to capitalise on Liverpool's recent slips to put themselves in pole position to life their second title in three years this afternoon.

    Will they see it through?

Despite that victory at West Ham, City continued to struggle on the road in the mid part of the season as they lost at both Chelsea and Sunderland. It was business as usual at HQ though, with Norwich suffering the worst punishment in a 7-0 loss while Tottenham were hit for six in a game which was the beginning of the end for manager Andre Villas-Boas.

The Blues started to go through the gears in December as they hammered early pacesetters Arsenal 6-3, then took maximum points over Christmas against then-leaders Liverpool, a resurgent Crystal Palace and a plucky Swansea outfit.

If Norwich are still in the Premier League by 17:00 BST, we can officially say it's been the greatest escape of all time. They need West Brom to lose against Stoke while they must beat Arsenal and hope for a 17-goal swing in their favour.

It looks over and out for the Canaries, unless Ricky van Wolfswinkel scores a season's worth of goals in just 90 minutes...

How do you sum up your team's season? And how can you do it in just four words?

Dominic: Southampton - Please don't leave, Pochettino.

Seb: Fulham - Jol. Meulensteen. Magath. Championship.

Chris: Manchester City - Please, not again City!

Whoever wins the league this season, they will have done it by finding the net.

Manchester City need four goals and Liverpool require five to beat Chelsea's record haul of 103 in a single Premier League season.

They could both end the season above that mark. City have 100 so far, Liverpool 99. Superb effort.

  7. City's early season ups and downspublished at 11:35 British Summer Time 11 May 2014

Manchester City were most pundits' picks for the title when we kicked off back in August, but there's been one or two slips along the way. While the goals poured in at home - they scored 26 goals in their first seven matches at the Etihad - there were one or two struggles on the road as new manager Manuel Pellegrini adapted to the English game.

Defeats at Cardiff and Aston Villa were a surprise, and it wasn't until 19 October that the Blues first won away from home. Their opponents? West Ham.

Thankfully the rain has abated somewhat in Manchester within the last half hour or so. I was pondering on the drive in this morning just what would have happened if the City game was called off?

Would the Liverpool game have to be postponed as well?

Former Manchester City forward Francis Lee on Sportsweek: "City's ability to score goals this season is so impressive. When Yaya Toure comes to the party he is a big game player. He is magnificent and the further forwards he gets the more he influences the game. They are playing more attractive football these days than under Roberto Mancini. There is a great feeling of unity in the team and that will show today.

"If you'd have asked me at the start of the season if Liverpool can finish in the top two I would have thought you were drinking. Maybe I thought they could be in the top four but Brendan Rodgers has over-achieved superbly."

Liverpool supporters may well be wearing West Ham kits underneath their red shirts today as they seek a miracle from the Hammers.

Unfortunately the omens are not good. Man City have lost just one of their last 13 Premier League meetings with West Ham (W9 D3).

The Hammers have won just two of their last 25 away league games against Manchester City, losing 20 and drawing three.

    So they are due one...

Vincent Kompany, Sergio Aguero, David Silva, Yaya Toure.

The bedrock of the Manchester City side you'd say. Certainly their best four players, and the quartet which have carried them toward the title.

    Except they haven't. Not really.

City's four biggest stars have started just four games together out of 37, and briefly featured together in a fifth, giving them a total of 209 minutes on the field together out of 3,330.

It's been a brilliant Premier League season - I'm sure you'll all agree. Well OK, maybe not if you support Fulham. Or Cardiff.

    Or Norwich. Or Manchester United.

From Luis Suarez's goals to Sunderland's Great Escape; from Steve Clarke to Tim Sherwood; from Ricky van Wolsfwinkel to Yaya Toure we've had it all.

But how do you sum up your team's season? And how can you do it in just four words?

After a quite brilliant title race which has stretched across 37 rounds of games and nine months, it all comes down to this.

A draw for Manchester City at home to West Ham will be enough to secure the title due to their goal difference being 13 goals better than Liverpool's.

Liverpool must beat Newcastle and hope that City lose to win their first title since 1990.

    Could it happen?

"No more slips! This does not slip! We go again..."

What a month of twists and turns in the Premier League. Four weeks ago, Liverpool beat title rivals Manchester City 3-2 in a brilliant game to move seven points clear of Manuel Pellegrini's side at the top of the table and edge closer to a first title since 1990.

An emotionally charged Steven Gerrard was caught on camera rallying the troops before uttering the quote of the season - the quote of any season? - 'this does not slip'.

Of course, in a moment that could have been scripted in the backlots of Hollywood, Gerrard himself then slipped as Chelsea won at Anfield a fortnight ago.

Another movie moment from Crystal Palace's Dwight Gayle then seemingly put the title firmly in City's grasp.

But as in any thriller, there is still room for one last twist. We are 90 minutes away from the Premier League trophy being handed out. Will the ribbons be sky blue or red?

    We go again...
