Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy on his side's relegation from the Premier League: "It is never nice. Our fate was sealed in the week, but the aim was to try and put a performance on for the fans this weekend. They have been brilliant all season, but unfortunately we have not been able to get a result for them today.

"We have played with the passion and determination for the last five games that, for whatever reason, we have been lacking for the rest of the season. Now we have to concentrate on putting a squad together that is capable of bouncing back to the Premier League."

"This has been a comprehensive, sophisticated, sensible season from City. And there are two players who made special contributions. Martin Demichelis and Joe Hart both came through an awful lot of criticism in the first half of the campaign but they regained their composure, didn't let it affect them and now they can take the applause."

Manchester City and England goalkeeper Joe Hart: "You can't repeat what happened against QPR, that's how it went that day. This year we've come strong at the end when we needed to. We're all winners with strong personalities and a great backroom staff and people who work at Manchester City. The boys that come in buy into it, so it's great.

"It's been a great year for me, I think it emphasised what a squad you need to win the Premier League. I was having a tough time and Costel Pantilimon came in, same as Richard Wright, I can't thank them enough."

"The full-time whistle at Anfield is greeted with loud cheers by the Liverpool fans, who had plenty of time to digest the fact that the Premier League title will not be coming their way but are no less proud at their team's achievements this season.

"Consistency over the season has been the key for City. It has been a campaign like no other but they have had the mental strength and the ability on the pitch to see it through to the end. These are great days. The fans are on the pitch but they will get them away and come back with the trophy.

Manchester City goalscorer Samir Nasri: "It's an amazing feeling. My second title in three years. It was an amazing league the whole year. There are no words to explain the feeling now. Maybe in an hour or two we will feel it. I'm so happy for the manager too because it's his first title in England.

"He remained calm all season for us to play attractive football and it was a pleasure to work with him. The Liverpool game against Chelsea, I think that was the twist of the season."

"Pitch invasions happen every single season. It's not malicious and the fans are not doing harm - they are just delighted and they want to celebrate with the players. You can say it's not right but you can understand it, and it happens every single time. The pitch is now completely flooded - there is not a blade of grass you can see."

Norwich's players have stayed on the pitch after the final whistle to complete a lap of honour. Plenty of fans have stuck about at Carrow Road to applaud them as well.

Peter, Havant: It has been a disappointing season for Liverpool in my eyes. The title is the only thing that counts! Being in Europe will be a distraction and Liverpool will be lucky to make the top seven next season. I can see that I will have to wait another 20 years before Liverpool get another sniff at the title.

There are thousands of City fans on the pitch - as a few miles away in Liverpool Steven Gerrard trudges off the Anfield pitch on his own.

He knows how close he came to the big prize. And he also probably knows his best chance may have gone...

Blue flares have been let off by a handful of jubilant City fans on the pitch as every man, woman and child films the scenes on their mobile phone.
