"Not many people that I have spoken to are prepared to make a call on this fixture, although a few reckon that QPR's experience could prove to be vital. Wembley bathed in sunshine one minute, clouds hovering over the stadium the next. Goal-line technology will be used this afternoon - I've just watched the system be put through its paces. Riveting viewing."

There are few things in football more nerve-wracking, more exciting, more toe-curlingly tense than a Championship play-off final, are there?

After an energy-sapping campaign spent fighting for a place in the top six and then two further gruelling bouts in the semi-finals, nine months of toil all comes down to what happens in the next 90 minutes.

Win, and you are back in the big time. Lose, and you have it all to do again next season. The stakes could barely be much higher.

£120m. Imagine what you could do with that burning a hole in your pocket. Buy an island in the Bahamas perhaps? A penthouse on the edge of Hyde Park? A couple of Bugatis and a massive birthday cake for Yaya Toure?

That is the financial prize that could potentially be heading to one team as Derby and QPR slug it out this afternoon in the Championship play-off final at Wembley.

By the time the attention of the football supporting world swings to Lisbon for the Champions League final tonight, one team will find themselves considerably richer and back in the Premier League. For QPR, victory will bring an end to a brief dip of the toes in Championship water. For Derby, it will end a six-year exile from the top flight.

Imagine being back in the Premier League! But what if we lose? We can't lose. The last nine months for nothing. Nah, it won't happen... will it?

Before you know it, it is 7am and it is time to begin the journey to Wembley, where a 46-game season could be decided in just 90 minutes.

For adults, this is like being a kid at Christmas. This is a game with one of the biggest prizes in domestic football at stake. This is the Championship play-off final.
