That's better! QPR soak up the Derby pressure and respond with the best chance of the game as Armand Traore fires a low cross to the middle of the area. Charlie Austin hits it first time, but the ball flies inches wide of the post. The game has opened up a bit now.

Another Derby corner and another clearance by QPR as Jamie Ward's delivery fails to find the white shirt of a Derby player. Still, the ball is rarely getting out of the QPR half at the moment.

  3. Postpublished at 16:11 British Summer Time 24 May 2014

Poor delivery is proving to be the tale of this game at the moment as Derby fail to make the most of a succession of corners. Each one finding the head of a QPR player first. Steve McClaren, taking a swig of his water up in the stands, will be pleased though, with his side in control, regardless of poor execution in the final third.

Derby are straight on the front foot as Will Hughes releases Jamie Ward down the left and the winger whips a cross into the area. No Derby players make the run to meet it though and QPR clear.

"If the game stays at 0-0 the question arises - when do you play your hand? Because both managers have hands to play. With Derby it is to bring on another striker, and with QPR, a midfielder. I think Harry Redknapp could have done something a bit different when replacing Kranjcar with Traore - the likes of Ravel Morrison, for example, will make a difference. But when?"

Some sunshine looks to have made an appearance as QPR get the second half under way. Here is hoping for a much brighter half than the first on the pitch.

Adam:, external Will Hughes and George Thorne look like really good young players. Technique without loss of the English bite.

Matthew:, external Weather's as bleak as the first half...

George:, external It'd be nice for Derby to win today as I don't think McClaren gets the respect he deserves in England since his brolly days.

"Chris Martin and Charlie Austin have so many goals between them but they have both been isolated today. Most of the QPR players have not had the authority in the game that they should - but Joey Barton in particular has not been in the game.

"The delivery from the wide areas, from both sides, has been poor, and as much it's been blood and thunder, the overall quality has been exceptionally poor."

Well it has not been a classic by any means but as history shows, it only takes one goal to lift these encounters into becoming memorable ones.

Who can forget that stunning goal by a 39-year-old Dean Windass that sent Hull into the Premier League back in 2008? Or David Hopkins dramatic last-minute winner for Crystal Palace in a 1-0 win against Sheffield United back in 1997?

One of the best play-off encounters of all time - Swindon's dramatic 4-3 against Leicester back in 1993 - saw six goals scored in the second half. Paul Bodin slamming home a late penalty after Leicester had fought back from three-goals down. Magic stuff and similar drama could yet unfold today.

OptaJoe:, external 0 - Despite having more attempts than Derby (7-5), Queens Park Rangers are yet to register a shot on target. Damp.

"Steve McClaren, notebook under his arm, made a brief appearance in the dugout at the end of the first half. I wonder what notes he made for his team-talk? There is plenty for both sides to improve upon after an opening 45 minutes that flew by but comprised few clear chances."

A great counter by QPR as the ball is plucked from the feet of Will Hughes and they break through Armand Traore. He skips away towards the area but suffers a rush of blood to the head as he swats a shot well wide, with Kevin Doyle screaming for the ball to his left. With one career goal to his name, quite why Traore thought he was best placed to shoot is beyond me.

"I've had the pleasure of working with Colin Bloomfield and commentating with him, we wish him all the best. What a fantastic, inspirational young man."

Derby County fans showed their support for BBC Radio Derby presenter Colin Bloomfield, who is suffering from cancer, by staging a minute's applause at Wembley. Bloomfield, 32, says he is still hoping to find a cure after being told his cancer has spread to his brain.

Best chance so far as Jamie Ward's curled free-kick evades the heads of both Derby and QPR players inside the area and almost creeps in, but Rob Green reacts quickly to push the ball around his post. Will Hughes's subsequent corner is easy pickings for Green.

"The sound was deafening early on but the cagey, increasingly even nature of the contest combined with the incredibly high stakes is making for a tense atmosphere among the two sets of fans. Nobody has much to gloat about right now, everyone has plenty to lose."

Alex:, external Harry Redknapp is a great manager, but I think the Premier League has missed Steve McClaren for too long.

Gareth:, external The fact QPR's wage bill is higher than that of Atletico Madrid means I'm supporting Derby today. Football is more than money.

Sam:, external QPR are the Man City of the championship. Derby's philosophy much healthier financially and more exciting with the English youth.

When QPR do attack, it is mostly on Derby's left, with full-back Craig Forsyth looking vulnerable to the pace of Junior Hoilett. If a goal is to come for Harry Redknapp's side, you would fancy it to come from a move started on that side.

  19. Postpublished at 15:37 British Summer Time 24 May 2014

Johnny Russell charges at the QPR defence before firing off a shot that takes a slight deflection to loop into the hands of Rob Green. Derby doing most of the attacking at the moment.

"Tactically both sides have got it right. They've had a 10-minute spell each. The moments will come with set pieces when you have the opportunity to deliver a quality ball in. Both have goalscorers to pounce on those chances but I think it will take 60-65 minutes before you see someone show their hand tactically again."
