  1. From London to Lisbonpublished at 18:30 British Summer Time 24 May 2014

So a fantastic afternoon of play-off drama comes to a close as QPR prepare for life back in the Premier League, while Derby have to try and pick themselves up for another season in the Championship.

A red card, a last-minute goal, elation and deflation. The game had it all and the best thing is, we have two more play-off finals to come. League One takes centre stage tomorrow as Rotherham face Leyton Orient and then Burton take on Fleetwood in the League Two final on Monday.

Before all that, though, it is the big one. Real Madrid v Atletico Madrid in the Champions League final and the good news is our live text offering continues in full force as Tom Rostance takes you through the action from Lisbon in a separate live on the BBC Sport website. Until tomorrow, it is goodbye from me.

QPR goalkeeper Rob Green reveals he dislocated his thumb with 25 minutes remaining of the play-off final: "I felt like throwing up in my goalmouth."

Asked whether the win makes up for the disappointment of missing out on a place in England's World Cup squad: "That was never a disappointment. I got the graveyard shift last season in comparison to this season. This year was never about a World Cup, it was about starting my career again. Proving myself as a goalkeeper and as a person and coming out fighting. I am so pleased for everyone involved at the club."

Jason:, external Dunne just proved that he's still a top class centre-back despite his age. Rock solid.

John:, external Cruel to say it but which Championship club will Bobby Z be getting promoted next season? Kevin Phillips MK II.

Arthur:, external Those 1-0 wins really are a QPR trademark. Can't imagine what must be going through Richard Keogh's head right now.

  4. Player reactionpublished at 18:15 British Summer Time 24 May 2014

QPR captain Clint Hill, who was sent off in the 2000 League Cup final when playing for Tranmere: "I learnt a lot about football at Wembley. I got sent off then and did not get a chance to walk up them steps. I am a very proud captain today.

"When you win it is the best way to be promoted. We have been questioned all year about our mentality, our attitude - called big timers and questioned about whether we wanted it, but I think we showed we do care and do want to win it.

"My contract is up but I got the chance to lift the trophy at Wembley. That is all I care about at the moment. All I know is I am going missing for 48 hours!"

QPR striker Charlie Austin, who has never played in the Premier League before: "The lads were giving me a bit of stick about that to be honest. But we stuck together and we are there now.

"I don't think I really caught the eye playing left midfield [having moved there after Gary O'Neil was sent off] but the whole team worked hard and we got the win. I know how it feels to be in Derby's position, it is not nice but that is football, there has to be a loser.

"I am so excited about the Premier League - top grounds and top players."

Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp: "An amazing finish to a game. Down to 10 men and then Derby start to create chances. I thought the centre-backs headed some great balls out of the box. I'll be truthful, we were looking for extra time and penalties and then Bobby does that. What a finish.

"I looked at us at the start of the season and 18 players left us. A lot of them were very good players we had to let go. I took Richard Dunne on a free and no-one else wanted him. He's been incredible for us and against Wigan and today he was immense."

You have to hand it to Steve McClaren and his Derby players. When they probably just wanted the world to swallow them up they stayed out on the Wembley pitch at the end to applaud the QPR players as they celebrated receiving the trophy. Class.

I have just been treated to the most amazing and bizarre scene today. Harry Redknapp, reclining on a sofa, hugging the play-off trophy with a look of sheer contentment on his face as he is being interviewed. What a hero.

  11. Chairman reactionpublished at 17:51 British Summer Time 24 May 2014

QPR chairman Tony Fernandes, speaking to Bein Sports: "Pure ecstasy, disbelief and yet belief. I kept feeling we could nick it. We'd come so far. I felt the fairytale would end in a positive way. Who better than Bobby Zamora, who's had so much stick from the fans.

"I was a split personality, more than half of me saying the dream's over and a little bit saying it's that Disneyland fairytale finish. It feels great that we'll be playing the Premier League teams again. We're a bit wiser and smarter."

There is hope for me yet as it seems you are never too old to make a difference in football. Dean Windass (39) in 2008, Kevin Phillips (39) last year, and now Bobby Zamora (33). All scoring the crucial winning goals in play-off finals.

    Bobby Zamora

It is a moment that I am sure QPR fans will never tire of listening to but I urge any neutral to give this a listen to too. BBC Radio 5 live's commentary of the moment Bobby Zamora scored the goal that put QPR back in the Premier League at the first time of asking.

  14. Player reactionpublished at 17:41 British Summer Time 24 May 2014

QPR midfielder Gary O'Neil, who was sent off, speaking to Sky Sports: "I knew I was getting a red, I've never been sent off before. I did it for best of the team at the time, thankfully it worked out. If he scores we go 1-0 down, maybe it helped out.

"This is the best way to go up if you can guarantee doing it. It's a fantastic day and I'm delighted for the fans and the owners.

"I don't know where I'll be next year, maybe this will stop someone taking me. It's a great club and I hope this squad stays together as much as it can."

  15. Postpublished at 17:38 British Summer Time 24 May 2014

Bobby Zamora's name is being chanted in the QPR dressing room as the play-off trophy is filled with beer, the players then taking it in turns to take a swig. I think it is safe to say there will be little chance of any of them popping home for a quiet night in front of the telly tonight.

Matt, Norwich: Can't say that was bad luck or undeserved because Derby have only got themselves to blame. Incapable of translating half an hour of dominance against ten men into a goal and then shocking defensive errors to gift QPR the goal. That doesn't cut it in a game as important as this.

Dom, Liverpool: Retrospectively have we just seen history's most intelligent red card?

Ian, St Annes: Derby will walk that league next season. Even if they do lose one or two players, they've got the best manager in that league by a country mile.

    Steve McClarenImage source, Getty Images

Derby manager Steve McClaren speaking to BBC Sport: "It was the cruellest game ever. I've lost some games in my career but that is the cruellest. We didn't deserve that but you don't often get what you deserve. For somebody to make mistakes - we don't blame anybody. I'm so proud of the players for what they've achieved this season and for how they played today. You could only see one winner. Maybe we're not ready yet with this young team.

"QPR showed their experience, they made it tight but they never looked like scoring. We had a lot of the ball, got it wide and put it in dangerous areas but credit to QPR, they made it hard to break down. They held their nerve and unfortunately they got the moment.

"Football tests your character at times. But the players stepped up to a big test and dominated the game with great energy and passion. Humility is a key thing in football and this will make us stronger."

A nice touch as QPR midfielder Joey Barton comes over and hugs Steve McClaren midway through his interview with BBC Sport's Steve Wilson. "Don't worry, you'll be back," says Barton.

The two worked together when McClaren was a coach at QPR and clearly formed a strong bond, with Barton having tweeted at the time of McClaren's departure to Derby that he was "gutted" and he would be a "big loss".

Aman:, external Got to feel for Steve McClaren. He is not made for Wembley.

Jacky:, external Last year it was Kevin Phillips. This year it was Bobby Zamora. Experience really is key in playoff finals.

Seth:, external Football is somehow cruel! Sorry Derby but that's how to play a final...

    Stats

Proof that stats don't always tell the true story. Derby dominated possession, corners and shots with QPR managing just the solitary effort on target. It was the one that counts, though, the £80m goal. That is how much QPR are expected to receive for promotion.
