    Thierry Henry
    Former France and Arsenal striker

"I'm speechless. Beforehand we were talking about Louis van Gaal and Johan Cruyff bringing total football to Barcelona and the Spanish squad but tonight the Dutch got their style back. They wanted it a bit more. I'm shocked.

"That was the final we wanted to see four years ago. The man of the match was Daley Blind. He actually did what his boss was asking him to a tee."

    Tony Pulis
Crystal Palace manager on BBC Radio 5 live

"For a long time Spain looked so dominant. In the first half we didn't see much from the Dutch team but in the second half they got that all-important second goal and just grew in stature.

"There are always big moments in big games. If David Silva scores Spain go on to win the game. After being second best, Netherlands completely dominated the game from half-time. How lucky are we to have been here to watch this?"

Alex:, external Netherlands are playing how Bayern played under Jupp Heynckes, when they thrashed Barcelona.

Aaron:, external Too many Spanish players past it. Barcelona last year should have been a message.

Ryan:, external Question is, will Spain drop Casillas and play De Gea?

Spain also lost their opening game of the World Cup last time out in South Africa, a 1-0 defeat to the Swiss.

But this will surely leave psychological scars. The death of tiki-taka?

  8. INJURY TIMEpublished at 21:48 British Summer Time 13 June 2014

    Into added time.

Spain have a chance to get a second but somehow Fernando Torres fails to convert an open goal! He takes a heavy touch and it gets away from him.

This has been a crazy second half.

"Spain have totally lost their momentum, their movement and their passing. The Dutch look full of running. They have come in to this tournament a little bit like England, with very low expectations. Wouldn't it be fantastic if England could get the same result against Italy?"

  12. GREAT SAVE!published at 21:45 British Summer Time 13 June 2014

Extraordinary! Georginio Wijnaldum almost makes it six after a mazy run before Arjen Robben's follow-up is pushed away by Iker Casillas.

Paul:, external Absolutely phenomenal performance from Netherlands!! Love seeing Spain being pulled apart.

Brian:, external Credit to van Gaal for picking Eredivise top young players. Holding their own here after a torrid opening 20 mins.

Shelley:, external Who saw this scoreline??? Absolutely fantastic Netherlands!!! This could just be a one-off for Spain, though...

"What a pass that was from Wesley Sniejder. Arjen Robben just went straight past Sergio Ramos, who has had a torrid time of it. Superb composure and the finish is sublime, absolutely first class. It's disappointing for Spain, they had a great first half and could have gone 2-0 up, but Netherlands have been by far the better team."

  18. GOALpublished at 21:37 British Summer Time 13 June 2014

Magnificent! You have to say that is magnificent!

Arjen Robben is the man for the big occasion, and he scores a sensational second to put Spain in a domain of pain. Spain lose the ball high up the field, and one pass sends Robben on his way. He tears past Sergio Ramos with ease before going around Iker Casillas, getting the ball on to his left foot and lashing in.

BBC Sport's David Ornstein in Salvador

"Incredible scenes inside Arena Fonte Nova as one of the best teams in football history are torn to shreds by a Netherlands team who arrived in Brazil with expectations lower than ever. The Dutch fans are in dreamland, their Spanish counterparts in pieces, some in tears. Every pass by the men in blue is being met with an "Ole!"

  20. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:36 British Summer Time 13 June 2014

Fernando Torres skips past Ron Vlaar and hits the deck - but it's no penalty.

Torres is perhaps lucky not to be booked, as Spain make a change, new Chelsea man Cesc Fabregas replaces David Silva.

Robin van Persie is then given a rest as Jeremain Lens takes his place.
