"Spain gave the ball away and it's good movement from the Netherlands but the two Spanish centre-backs are too far apart. Arjen Robben showed great aplomb to bring it down and it's a fantastic finish.

"In Robben and Robin van Persie Netherlands have great, great quality. Let's see how Spain react now, the pressure is on them to win the game, there will be a fantastic end to this match."

Diego Costa goes head to head with Bruno Martins Indi and the big Netherlands defender goes down. Silly thing to do, he could easily be sent off for that, but referee Nicola Rizzoli didn't see the incident.

Brilliant! Remember when we used to say Arjen Robben couldn't do it in the big games? He does now, all the time.

Robin van Persie picks him out in the middle with a lob-wedge of a pass, his first touch is brilliant, he then cuts inside Gerard Pique and lashes into the roof of the net.

    What a turnaround.

Lovely stuff. The Netherlands looks a different side since clawing back level and they are now keeping the ball for extended periods. Daryl Janmaat almost picks out Arjen Robben - always on the move, but he can't quite find him.

Andres Iniesta skids one across the turf and Jasper Cillessen has to make another smart save. The Ajax man has had an impressive game so far between the sticks.

"Just to add another dimension to this intoxicating match, the heavens have opened and it's making for quite treacherous conditions. Those spectators not being covered by the stadium roof have a particular problem on their hands."

"It's lovely when you're playing in the rain. As a player I always loved it. I think the ball will move a lot quicker now and we will have a more entertaining game as a result in this second half."

Lovely tackle from Sergio Ramos to shut out Robin van Persie at the start of the second half. The rain is lashing down, which will be a relief to the players I would imagine.

We are back under way, and the heavens have opened.

Ronnie, Kirkcaldy: Messrs Shearer, Henry and Ferdinand on BBC1 all think it was a penalty! Unbelievable as Mr Hansen would say. Costa stretched his leg out to contact the defender's leg i.e. he clearly cheated.

Rahul: What an absolute picture of a goal for Netherlands. Van Persie didn't even need to look at where anything was, just kept his eye on the ball and the rest was magic improvisation.

Robin van Persie has now scored in three World Cups after goals in 2006 and 2010. Unfortunately he only has three World Cup goals altogether. Louis van Gaal may need him to find the net again.

Do Spain kick on and look for a second or is a draw a decent result for both sides here?

With Chile on the prowl, I'd suggest not...

Paddy: We need retrospective punishment for dives. You can't blame the referee, he was well conned, but on the replay it's clearly a yellow card for simulation and a yellow/red for a stamp. He must receive a ban. The Dutch would protest it doesn't affect the result but in reality they'd be no worse off.

Conrad, Halifax: Best diving header since Keith Houchen in '87.

"Robin van Persie's goal is classic centre-forward play. He had a relatively quiet 45 minutes but his goal is the sign of a top centre-forward as it was a fantastic finish."

Jordan:, external Pretty special goal that from van Persie. Decent game as well, crucial save from the Holland keeper just before the equaliser.

Molly:, external That cross was Stig Inge Bjornebye-like in how deep he was. Who said you needed to get to the by-line to cross!?

Lee:, external Iniesta - the best inside left of the last 40 years (Cruyff before him the only comparison).

"For the Netherlands goal you have to give credit to Daley Blind and that's Robin van Persie at his best. I wouldn't have taken that on my head.

"When you see the position of Gerard Pique and Sergio Ramos and you have a guy like Van Persie he can kill you."

How many people would even try a header there? You would expect Robin van Persie to chest the ball down but he threw himself into a brilliant header...

    Alan Shearer

"It's a close game and there is nothing in it. There have been chances for both teams. It is fascinating at how the Dutch tactics, with three at the back, are working. Whether it is Andres Iniesta or Xavi, they are looking for Diego Costa, who is giving Spain another option.

"I think the referee got the penalty decision correct as it was a rash challenge from the defender."

"A fascinating game to watch between two fantastic football nations. Spain had dominated the play and I fancied them to get the second. What a massive miss David Silva's might turn out to be.

"Diego Costa had been pulling the Netherlands back three all over the place and making space for the likes of Andres Iniesta and David Silva, but with the likes of Robin van Persie and Arjen Robben in your side the match can change in a matter of seconds."
