Right then, that is all from me as I go and get my breath back after that thriller. I'll take this opportunity to point you in the direction of Tom Rostance's live text commentary on England's game against Italy on the BBC Sport website.

If what we have seen so far today is anything to go by, it is sure to be a thriller.

It will be interesting to see how Joel Campbell gets on at this tournament. He was excellent tonight and he won't need any motivation to put in a similar shift against England.

He has yet to force his way into Arsene Wenger's thinking at Arsenal, but after scoring against Manchester United in the Champions League while on loan at Olympiakos and his man-of-the-match performance tonight, surely he will have given him some food for thought?

After six games at this World Cup there have been 22 goals compared to only eight at this stage in 2010.

There we go then, it is *officially the most exciting World Cup ever already.

Oye:, external The Costa Rican 'Back 5' exemplified what defending is all about ! They were very very disciplined!

David Mateer:, external If Suarez was playing, Uruguay would have had 3 more penalties...and he would have saved a couple.

"What a World Cup this is. No-one inside Estadio Castelao saw that coming. At the final whistle, the tens of thousands of Brazil fans inside the stadium joined with the small but vocal band of Costa Rica fans to stand an incredible 90 minutes.

"The Costa Rica fans are still dancing in the stands across the playing field from me. They can't believe. They are not the only ones."

Looking at this result from an England perspective, I am not sure whether this is good or bad. On the one hand, it shows Uruguay are very much beatable, and Luis Suarez is evidently not yet fit enough.

On the other hand, Costa Rica look a much more dangerous side than many observers perhaps expected, while Uruguay will be even more determined to win when they play England next week.

    Tough to call.

"I was so disappointed with Uruguay. They didn't work hard or use the ball well. Forlan looks a 20-minute man now. They've got big problems. If Suarez is fit they've got a chance but at the moment you have to fear Costa Rica more than Uruguay."

Fear Costa Rica more than Uruguay; who thought people would be saying that 45 minutes ago?

David:, external These 8pm matches are crazy! Never expected that result 3-1 Costa Rica! Wonder what France are thinking about Honduras?

Abdul:, external Every game have been fantastic to watch. It's been brilliant. Over to you England/Italy, don't disappoint.

Brilliant, utterly brilliant from Costa Rica.

There was no luck about this result, as they simply outplayed Uruguay in the second half with a stunning display. The players are celebrating on the pitch like they have won the whole tournament, but it is a historic moment for Costa Rica. Great scenes.

What a World Cup this is turning out to be.

"It's incredible. We were sitting here at half-time thinking it would be the easiest night for Uruguay if Costa Rica didn't come out and attack. They turned the game on its head and they've run out deserved winners.

"Maxi Pereira is experienced and he's a good player and he may have been sent off for putting his hands on him afterwards rather than the swipe.

"Uruguay will need to look at the way they defended those set-pieces. They couldn't cope with the pressure on the ball or the counter-attacks."

  11. Red card for Uruguay - Maxi Pereirapublished at 21:54 British Summer Time 14 June 2014

Maxi Pereira lets his frustrations get the better of him and kicks down Joel Campbell. Most of the players rush in to diffuse the situation but Pereira is sent off. A miserable night for Uruguay.

Ash:, external Uruguay will need Suarez against England at this rate. Unfortunately Suarez deals with pressure exceptionally well.

Abdul:, external Is this a good or bad result for England?

David:, external Campbell is some player. Deserves a chance at Arsenal next season.

Stuart, Southampton: That was a wonderful goal, 3-1 does NOT flatter Costa Rica. Could this be the first World Cup where the form book goes right out the window?

Into the 90th minute of an extraordinary match and the fourth official shows five additional minutes. Uruguay boss Oscar Tabarez looks dumbfounded, but it is not long enough for Costa Rica fans, who are on cloud nine.

"A tremendous finish from Marcos Urena. A great little run broke the line and I'm not sure if the goalkeeper has to go all the way out there at that angle but you can't take anything away from the finish from Urena.

"It's an amazing start to this tournament for Costa Rica, especially as they just didn't turn up in the first half. They looked scared but in the second half they've pushed players forward and the changes the coach has made turned the game on its head. Uruguay haven't had any answers."

  16. GOALpublished at 21:43 British Summer Time 14 June 2014

Would you believe it! Costa Rica have surely wrapped up one of the biggest shocks in World Cup history as substitute Marcos Urena latches on to a fine pass by Joel Campbell to squeeze a shot beyond Fernando Muslera and into the back of the net. It is his first goal since 2011!

Nicolas Lodeiro dinks a ball into the middle of the box but it is too high for Abel Hernandez.

Uruguay last came from behind to win a game at a World Cup in 1966. It looks unlikely they are going to end that record run tonight.

KB: If it stays this way, Uruguay, a usually capable team, will definitely need three points from their next opponents... England. Things just got interesting.

  19. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:37 British Summer Time 14 June 2014

Uruguay make their final change of the game and it is a bit of a surprise one as Luis Suarez stays on the bench. Abel Hernandez is the man to come on, replacing Cristian Rodriguez.

Palermo striker Hernandez has a good record for Uruguay, though, having scored seven goals in his 12 appearances.

  20. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:34 British Summer Time 14 June 2014

Costa Rica make their first change as Jose Cubero comes on for Yeltsin Tejeda, who is in no rush to get off the pitch.
