Monica:, external It makes a change watching players who are eager to do well. This is what I've been wanting to see for years.

Some great dad dancing in the stands from a few England fans.

If this was Italy against any other side, you'd put your house on a 1-1 draw here. But let's be positive eh?

    Former England defender Rio Ferdinand

"With Danny Welbeck he's just got to take a few more risks. He keeps it as well as anyone else but at the top level you need to take risks.

"He's a confident lad but he wants to be efficient. Sometimes as a defender you don't mind him taking chances in the final third for the right reasons."

"It was a class finish from Daniel Sturridge, a perfect strike from a player full of confidence - give him the chances and he will score. But it seems both Italy and England are still playing with a bit of a fear factor.

"Italy are very happy with the pace of the game, they want to play slow because their players are older. I know it's hot and but if England can just raise the temp of the game by 20 or 25% it would cause a lot more problems."

Times chief football correspondent Oliver Kay:, external I'm not always a fan of these stats, but if you're interested, Wayne Rooney ran 5.91km in the first half, more than any other England player. Raheem Sterling was second.

England physio Gary Lewin by the way has dislocated his ankle. Could be the end of his World Cup I would imagine. Ouch.

Rich, Swindon: Use those substitutions wisely Roy! The term 'fresh legs' has never been more valid, an injection of pace from the Ox may be just what we need to press on and win this.

Jon-Marc, Wolverhampton: Anyone criticising Wayne Rooney's performance knows nothing about football. He has been outstanding defensively helping Baines and then he delivered a brilliant cross to set up Sturridge's goal on one of the few opportunities he had to get forward.

"Every time he gets the ball Raheem Sterling's asking the Italians 'Do you want to defend against me?' He's positive, running directly at them and causing problems."

"Wayne Rooney is not enjoying his role on the left hand side because he is having to work so hard to cover defensively. Raheem Sterling is causing Italy problems. He is a big, big threat to them."

    Danny Mills
    BBC Radio 5 live

"I think it's gone well. England will be delighted to have got back in the game so quickly and the equaliser just shows that the Italian back four don't have a huge amount of pace.

"Italy are looking for little balls over the top through Andrea Pirlo and England should really be able to defend against that - it comes down to concentration.

"But several times Leighton Baines has been isolated and Roy Hodgson really must address this at half-time because time and again England are being exposed on their left-hand side."

    Former England defender Rio Ferdinand

"They're always going to create chances but you have to be in the right positions to counteract the danger. They're getting in that hole either side of the midfield players and they're going to take a chance.

"You want people like Sterling driving at people. Welbeck opening his legs down the sides and making people uncomfortable. We're excited here and we haven't had that in previous tournaments."

    Alan Shearer
    BBC Sport

"England concede too many goals from set-pieces. You can't afford to switch off at this level, it was too easy for Italy. But going forward we have looked good. Raheem Sterling has been outstanding, Danny Welbeck has been outstanding while Daniel Sturridge got the goal his play deserves."

BBC Sport Chief Football Writer Phil McNulty in Manaus

"Another excellent 45 minutes at this World Cup with both sides playing their part. England have looked excellent going forward but Italy have class. Italy have shaded possession but manager Roy Hodgson will be happy with the attacking side of their game."
