"I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea when we talk about how strong the Hondurans are in the tackle. They can play as well. They are playing 4-2-4, they have out and out wingers. They have settled better in my opinion."

"I'm particularly looking forward to seeing Paul Pogba in midfield. France are a team that loves to play football, their full-backs bomb forward, and I hope they show the same bravery as they have done in recent friendlies."
Yohan Cabaye dropping right back into the 'quarterback' role for France early on, they will try to play through the PSG man while Paul Pogba, the new Yaya/Vieira is allowed to bomb on.
Lee:, external France win the classiest football shirt competition.
I'm a big fan too Lee. Class.
Honduras get us under way.

"The key for Honduras is to give France a hard time. When I played against Thierry Henry, we used to go out there, be strong and be physical. We were like wasps. We didn't give them a moment to settle. You hated playing that sort of team, didn't you, Thierry?"
Thierry Henry's response: "We managed."
Thierry Henry
Former France and Arsenal striker
"If France win the World Cup so be it. You would like them to reach the quarters, but it's about then being strong for the next Euros back home."
Confusion here as the players shake hands after a lengthy delay, it appears that there will be no national anthems!
Hugo Lloris asks the referee what's going on. Who knows. Gremlins in the system...

"France coach Didier Deschamps is the right man for the job, he has great experience, charisma and personality. They have young players but they are young, experienced players. Paul Pogba, for example, has done a number of important things in his career. I expect France to become a strong side."
The new Yaya Toure? Or the new Patrick Vieira? No pressure on Paul Pogba then! Here they come, the players are in the tunnel...
Conor McNamara
BBC commentator at Estadio Beira-Rio
"Most people will be familiar with the name Paul Pogba. He only made seven appearances for Manchester United and he was a steal for Juventus, he was named the best under-21 player in Europe last season and I think in the absence of Franck Ribery he has the chance to become the new star of French football.
"There have been suggestions he has burnt out a bit this year. His form at club level did dip towards the end of the season but he is 21 years of age and his body has been thrust into playing week in and week out for Juventus.
"I think, if you were to ask the question who will be the next Yaya Toure, who could be the next player to provide them lung-busting runs from midfield and powerful finishes, then I think Paul Pogba is the best young player at doing that."
Thierry Henry
Former France and Arsenal striker
"Paul Pogba reminds me of [France World cup winner] Patrick Vieira. He's so confident he makes the game look easy. If he isn't challenged then he will dominate the midfield. It's up to him to take it to another level."
Clarence Seedorf
Match of the Day analyst
"France striker Karim Benzema is so on point tactically, he thinks about the team more than himself. The work he does during the game, the way he reads the game, it is excellent. We're going to enjoy another great striker during this World Cup."
Just under 15 minutes to go. Patrice Evra is very vocal in the French huddle, it's time to get pumped...
Here's tonight's weather report from John Hammond, BBC Weather: "Largely dry in Porto Alegre this evening but there is a small chance of a thundery shower.
"Humidity will be around 85% with a temperature of 25C."
Steamy stuff.

"It was a poor decision by Manchester United to let Paul Pogba go. Really poor. There are reports of them signing him back for £60m. But they should never have let him go."

As Brazil are finding out right now, there's nothing quite like the pressure of hosting a World Cup.
Sixteen years ago, France ate that pressure for breakfast, smothered on a warm croissant with some laughing cow, as they beat Brazil 3-0 in Paris to win the tournament for the first time.
Zinedine Zidane scored twice in the final on a magic night for French football.
Eight years later Zidane ended his career with a goal and a red card in the 2006 final. What a way to retire. On a manic headbutt...

"The French are worried about the physical threat of Honduras. Although the France defence can handle themselves a bit, in midfield and going forward they they don't like that side of the game and are concerned that Honduras could get amongst them."
