"Wilson Palacios just takes Paul Pogba out. Pogba was going to take that down and put it in the back of the net. We've said Palacios hasn't had much football this season, well he's not going to get much more in this one. France have been so dominant that he has had to make these fouls, but that was just one too many.

"It's nothing more than France deserve, Benzema showed all his quality and nerve to score. A piece of cake for him."

Real Madrid man Karim Benzema had a long, long wait but converts the penalty superbly, high and into the corner.

    Is that the floodgates opening?

"Wilson Palacios cannot have any complaints. It was a stick on penalty. He then said something to the referee and he has a cheek because it was a penalty as clear as day."

  7. PENALTY TO FRANCEpublished at 20:42 British Summer Time 15 June 2014

Referee Sandro Ricci gets into the game, giving a penalty as Wilson Palacios barges into the back of Paul Pogba. A cynical check...

"You can see a bit of belief growing in this Honduras side in the last 10 minutes, mostly because they have got this far without conceding. There is a bit of belief coming into them now and maybe they are thinking, 'do we really have much to fear from this French midfield?' France have gone very quiet, but they have quality players and only need a moment."

Paul Pogba keeps it really well in the corner, he beats a man and then finds Mathieu Debuchy, but he can't cross to a blue shirt. Seconds later Karim Benzema gets away at the back stick but again he can't find a team-mate.

"Honduras are very difficult to beat, very compact and physical. With all these youngsters in the France squad Karim Benzema is the figurehead the team looks towards to settle things down and get the goal, it's the only thing missing from all of France's good play.

"When Honduras have possession, that diagonal ball in behind the full backs is just maybe where the French are looking a little bit vulnerable."

Lovely stuff again from Antoine Griezmann, he picks a slide-rule pass out to free Blaise Matuidi, but his cross is well closed down.

So far France have looked really neat and tidy until they get into the box. They are just lacking that je ne sais quoi in the final third.

France have only won one of their last nine games in the World Cup group stages and Les Bleus have only scored one goal from open play in their last six games in this competition.

Paul:, external More inconsistent refereeing at the World Cup. Everyone expected the ref to brandish a red card.

Hazy:, external Honduras are brutal to watch. Wilson Palacios there was out of line. No wonder Paul Pogba kicked out Palacios was doing his best to 'do' him.

    France v Honduras

Wes:, external Absolutely disgraceful from Palacios. Fully behind Pogba there kicking out. Glad it was two yellows though. Round two!

This Honduras team are intimidating. I've picked up a few knocks already just typing around them. They take the phrase 'get tight' to a new level.

That's a let off for France. More importantly, it has put an end to an extended period of pressure on the Honduras goal.

"Did Paul Pogba kick out too hard? I am not too sure. Looking at the replay it is not that bad, I think both players deserve a yellow card.

"As an ex-player, you don't want to see someone sent off for that. I did not want David Beckham sent off for a similar tackle all those years ago, so I am happy with the referee's decision."

If he stays on the pitch...

  20. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20:27 British Summer Time 15 June 2014

Referee Sandro Ricci has a big decision here. Paul Pogba is trodden on by Wilson Palacios but the French youngster does lash out at him on the ground. David Beckham style. Long delay and the ref then books both players.

    He's a lucky boy...
