  4. Manager reactionpublished at 22:01 British Summer Time 16 June 2014

Iran manager Carlos Queiroz: "I'm very happy but it was very difficult. We played against a great team and it was necessary to play a realistic game. We fought for every ball, every space and played 90 minutes with one thing in our mind. My players need to be congratulated.

"Now it's Argentina and the most important thing is that everything is open to us."

    Neil Lennon
    Former Celtic manager

"You can see why I played Efe Ambrose centre-half. He hasn't got the technique to cross the ball. He's got what's called a curly toe."

  6. Postpublished at 21:56 British Summer Time 16 June 2014

    Rio Ferdinand
    Former England captain

"The decision making in the final third when Nigeria managed to get there was poor. They made the wrong choices. The quality of the balls into the box was poor and they didn't play to their strengths.

"This is the game they should have wanted to go out and win and you would think there would be more urgency in their play."

    Former Celtic manager Neil Lennon

"I thought both teams were poor. You can understand it from Iran. The one saving grace for Nigeria is maybe they are better counter attacking and against Bosnia and Argentina that might suit them better."

    Chris Waddle

"I've been very impressed with Iran's organisation and discipline. They fought for everything. We all expected Nigeria to put two or three gaols in so Iran should get the praise.

"Nigeria lacked a lot of quality and that will cost them in this tournament. They'll do very well to finish second in this group. You can see Iran getting three draws if they set their stall out like this."

  9. Postpublished at 21:53 British Summer Time 16 June 2014

Former Republic of Ireland midfielder Kevin Kilbane
    MOTD

"Iran have proved very difficult to beat, difficult to play against and very awkward. But Nigeria haven't done enough."

    Chris Waddle

"Bosnia have got goalscorers so I think they'll score against Iran, but whoever plays them is in for a game. They're not going to beat you but it's whether you can break them down."

The first goalless draw of the tournament is greeted by a chorus of boos by Nigeria's fans. The African champions can have few complaints. They lacked any creative spark and are now winless in nine World Cup matches.

Two minutes of stoppage time. Shola Ameobi sends an effort towards Iran's net but Mehrdad Pouladi makes a vital block. Too little too late by Nigeria.

Not much time left for either team to secure victory. Where's the desire? Iran's next game is against Argentina while Nigeria meet Bosnia. These two could be heading home early unless they can find the net in the last few minutes.

I wonder what Kevin Davies makes of this scrappy affair as he watches from his home made beach. The Preston and former Bolton and England striker Kevin Davies, external has created the Copacabana beach at his Bolton home as he enjoys the World Cup.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's dozed off.
