Stadium Joaquim Americo (Arena da Baixada). Capacity: 43,981

    Capacity: 39,631

Opened: Re-built in 1999 after originally being opened in 1914.

Climate: Curitiba's altitude makes it the coldest among Brazil's state capitals. During summer, the average temperature is around 25 °C (77 °F) in the day, but it can get above 30 °C (86 °F) on the hottest days.

Approximate distance from Rio: 416 miles.

Fixtures: 20 June: Honduras v Ecuador; 23 June: Australia v Spain; 26 June: Algeria v Russia.

Background: Built in 1914 and renovated for the second time, Arena da Baixada was intended to be the country's first stadium with a retractable roof, in order to deal with Curitiba's frequent rain showers. But construction delays and strikes put a stop to those plans.

The roof will now be added after the World Cup. Curitiba boasts the world's second-largest Polish community. Since the city hosted the 1950 World Cup, its landscape has changed. Efforts to create a more attractive environment for tourists has turned it into an "ecological capital", with 30 parks.

    Former England captain Rio Ferdinand

"Carlos Queiroz has got that competitive edge and he cared about all the details. It would be like "Giggs, Ferdinand, Neville, you're doing what I say and no changing" but he was fantastic and he laid a lot of the foundations for the success while he was there and a couple of years after."

"Nigeria are a bit like Wigan used to be when they were in the Premier League under Roberto Martinez and I had to predict how they would do every week; I never knew what they were going to do.

"If they play to their potential, Nigeria should beat Iran, but the clash of playing styles between the two teams means that might not be as straightforward as it seems."

  11. Can the Rottweiler make Iran bite?published at 19:22 British Summer Time 16 June 2014

"He was good for me. He was a Rottweiler. He was the closest you could be to being the Manchester United manager without actually holding the title," says former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson in his autobiography about Carlos Queiroz.

The 61-year-old has constructed a team in his image - they are anything but meek. In contrast to the chaos behind the scenes, on the pitch they are supremely well organised and disciplined, content to sit deep and stifle their opponents.

Could we be about to witness the tournament's first goalless draw?

"Nigeria will be looking to make a big improvement on the form they've been showing over the last year.

"They come here not in great form and they're a young side so anything could happen in this game

"Iran will fancy their chances. They don't give anything away and they'll probably try to nick a goal and win 1-0."

Fenerbahce's Emmanuel Emenike spearheads Nigeria's attack. Emenike, joint top scorer at the 2013 African Nations Cup finals, leads the line with the formidable Vincent Enyeama in goal at Arena da Baixada.

Enyeama takes the captain's armband from Norwich defender Joseph Yobo, who will be on the bench along with forwards Peter Odemwingie and Shola Ameobi.

Iran have Charlton's Reza Ghoochannejhad as sole striker and captain Javad Nekounam marshalling the midfield.

Iran is not a happy camp.

Carlos Queiroz is stepping down as manager after the World Cup and you sense the 61-year-old cannot wait to go after claiming any chance of advancing from a group also containing Argentina and Bosnia-Hercegovina has been ruined by events in May.

A friendly was mysteriously cancelled at short notice, while players reported late for a training camp. More embarrassingly, there were problems with the quantity and quality of equipment provided - boots were too small and training kit allegedly shrank in the wash.

Queiroz spoke out but high farce ensued as the head of Iran's Football Federation reportedly told players to wash garments in cold water to avoid shrinkage. He then warned Queiroz "not to air dirty laundry in public". Yes, seriously.

We've all experienced it. You psych yourself up for days to play in a match only to discover in the dressing room that your kit has mysteriously shrunk in the wash or your boots are suddenly too small.

But this is no Sunday League tale. This is the story of Iran's farcical build-up the 2014 World Cup, a tournament manager Carlos Queiroz says his team have no chance of making an impact at after a shambolic pre-Brazil training camp in South Africa.

Is the former Manchester United assistant's pessimism sincere? We're about to find out. Iran versus Nigeria is just around the corner.

Iran left-back Hashem Beikzadeh, who suffered an injury in a warm-up game, is back in training but lacks fitness.

They will reportedly be unchanged from their last friendly, with Charlton's Reza Ghoochannejhad their lone striker.

Nigeria lost first-choice left-back Uwa Echiejile before the tournament began, so Juwon Oshaniwa will replace him.

Centre-back Kenneth Omeruo should be available despite a knock in training but midfielder Ruben Gabriel is reportedly doubtful.
