Stadium Joaquim Americo (Arena da Baixada). Capacity: 43,981
Capacity: 39,631
Opened: Re-built in 1999 after originally being opened in 1914.
Climate: Curitiba's altitude makes it the coldest among Brazil's state capitals. During summer, the average temperature is around 25 °C (77 °F) in the day, but it can get above 30 °C (86 °F) on the hottest days.
Approximate distance from Rio: 416 miles.
Fixtures: 20 June: Honduras v Ecuador; 23 June: Australia v Spain; 26 June: Algeria v Russia.
Background: Built in 1914 and renovated for the second time, Arena da Baixada was intended to be the country's first stadium with a retractable roof, in order to deal with Curitiba's frequent rain showers. But construction delays and strikes put a stop to those plans.
The roof will now be added after the World Cup. Curitiba boasts the world's second-largest Polish community. Since the city hosted the 1950 World Cup, its landscape has changed. Efforts to create a more attractive environment for tourists has turned it into an "ecological capital", with 30 parks.
