Chile have had 64% of the possession in the opening seven minutes. Not many teams do that to Spain.

    Former England international Danny Murphy
    MOTD analyst

"Spain's back four are really pushing up high, much higher than against the Dutch so maybe their intention is to attack rather than build the game. I'd like to see more goals from David Silva and I'm really interested to see him in that free role.

"It's a bold formation from Chile. Arturo Vidal is really bombing on to join the strikers."

Diego Costa does not have a red shirt within 35 yards of him as he chases down a lost cause in the corner. It's a wonderful start from Chile, exactly the sort of tempo and intensity which earned them an early 2-0 lead against Australia.

    Crystal Palace manager Tony Pulis

"Eduardo Vargas should have hit that first time, he tried to get it onto his right but if he steps through it on his left he scores. Chile have missed a great chance there."

  5. Postpublished at 20:02 British Summer Time 18 June 2014

    Former England international Danny Murphy
    MOTD analyst

"Pedro has started on the right for Spain, with Andres Iniesta on the left and David Silva in a free role, Chile go for it and that means goals. They've started with pace and Spain look nervous at the back."

  6. CLOSE!published at 20:02 British Summer Time 18 June 2014

Chance for Chile after 45 seconds! Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal breaks into the penalty area, he tees up Eduardo Vargas and a tackle almost forces the ball into his own net.

From the following corner Gonzalo Jara screws a header wide. Chile come out swinging looking for an early knockout punch!

It's the World Cup of the a capella anthem. Whatever Brazil can do, Chile can do better.

    Or just as well anyway...

BBC Sport's David Ornstein in Rio

"The chaos in the media centre made for an unpleasant preamble, but everything is now under control and the stadium is rocking to a far more positive atmosphere.

"Although it is tricky to differentiate the two sets of supporters as they are both in the red of their teams, there is no doubt there are far more Chile fans here and it is making for quite remarkable noise."

Chile's is one of the great anthems of the World Cup. The Maracana erupts in sound for the men in white.

Spain will be out of the World Cup if they lose this...

Thierry was very much the man at Arsenal. Here we go then, here they come!

Former France and Arsenal striker Thierry Henry
    MOTD analyst

"Alexis Sanchez is Chile's man - you can see the confidence he has when he plays for Chile. He's one of the men in Barcelona, but here he is the man.

"As a striker when you feel everybody loves you, wants you to do well and expects you to do well, you try harder."

    Crystal Palace manager Tony Pulis
    BBC Radio 5 live

"With Diego Costa playing we might see a few more angled passes in from distance and people linking up with play through him. Spain know they have got to attack today and I am sure they will. You're hoping you see the right reaction from the world champions and if we do it will be a fantastic game today.

"They will be looking to win the game first and foremost. Then in Australia they will be playing against a team that is already out of the competition."

Matt Aitken:, external I can see Chile playing attacking football and playing right into Spain's hands. Convincing win for Spain for me.

Danny Bryan:, external I really don't think Costa suits Spain's style of play, be better with Cesc Fabregas up top.

Sahil:, external Javi Martinez is a quality central midfielder, but centre back he has been less than stellar for Bayern.

Here come the players in the tunnel inside the Maracana. Spain lining up in snazzy white and gold tracksuits, looking understandably edgy. There's a lot of beard stroking going on, with Sergio Ramos in vocal form.

    Former Celtic manager Neil Lennon
    MOTD analyst

"The reason Diego Costa is playing is maybe because he has the physical advantage over the Chile defenders Gary Medel and Gonzalo Jara. I should think he will be rubbing his hands together at the prospect of getting the better of them.

"There has been a lot of talk about Costa picking Spain over Brazil, he's been booed by Brazil fans here. I think he is a brilliant player. He has scored a lot of goals, and he is a different type of striker for Spain. He's not a false nine, he's a proper, bona fide number nine.

"Pedro will give Spain that spark as well, making runs from from outside to in, and he has goals in him that boy."

Chile scored 29 goals in qualifying - with only Argentina bagging more in South America.

They have lost just twice in 2014 and a win tonight would leave Spain in real, real trouble...
