The big man doesn't let us down. Eyes close, head back at a slight angle - it's classic fare from Gigi Buffon.

That man loves Il Canto Degli Italiani. Who doesn't?

Gigi Buffon. Anthem. One of my highlights of any tournament...

"Italy have changed their philosophy a bit. We remember a tight defence, strong midfield, but this is a really technical midfield with all players who know how to play the ball. A joy to watch."

Here they come then. Italy head out on the pitch in a white tracksuit, under which is their azure blue shirt.

Costa Rica in a classy white effort with a red diagonal stripe. Is it Cupset time or shall England live another day?

Is this the man to send Italy into the knockout stages again? Like a good cheese or a fine wine, Andrea Pirlo seems to be improving with age.

We are 15 minutes away from kick-off then. Italy found Raheem Sterling a pest in the opening few minutes of their clash with England last week, can Joel Campbell do the same?

  9. Postpublished at 16:45 British Summer Time 20 June 2014

Joel Campbell has yet to play for Arsenal since signing in 2011.

He bought 100 packets of World Cup stickers prior to the tournament and didn't get himself once! What a racket...

"Joel Campbell is a great player. He can pass the ball well and smells the goal. We are all waiting to see him in an Arsenal shirt. Hopefully he will be a player Arsene Wenger likes because I would love to see him play for Arsenal."

"There has been an awful lot of discussion about the heat here in Recife, but having been in Fortaleza for two matches I can say that, although I am in the shade, it is nowhere near as warm as it was at Estadio Castelao, where temperatures reached 32C at kick-off before Uruguay played Costa Rica. It was around 30C when Brazil played Mexico."

  13. Stay with me Roypublished at 16:40 British Summer Time 20 June 2014

England should stick with manager Roy Hodgson despite his side facing an early World Cup exit, according to former captain Alan Shearer.

Hodgson's side have lost their first two games in Group D and, if Italy fail to beat Costa Rica, then England are out.

But Shearer told BBC Sport: "I would give Roy the chance to take England to the 2016 European Championship.

"He should get the opportunity to finish what he has started."

"One thing that surprises me in Italy, they always believe they are going to win. Even when an Italian side goes down to nine men, you can see in their eyes they still believe. And they usually do."

This is Italy and Costa Rica's first World Cup encounter.

Their only previous meeting was in a friendly on 11 June 1994 at New Haven in the United States before that year's World Cup. Italy won 1-0 thanks to a goal by Beppe Signori.

Italy have scored in their last 15 World Cup games, a record run for them and the best current run of any side.

Italy have not won their second game at a World Cup in any of the last three editions.
