"Most of us would have picked nine or 10 of the same players that Roy did for the tournament. Roy has got things wrong, that problem down the left against Italy not addressed quickly enough.

"Hodgson can't do anything about the lapses in concentration that happened towards the end of the Uruguay game. We talk about formations all the time. 4-2-3-1 is fine, but we don't really have the out and out holding players."

That Fifa anthem, which by now is embedded in the very recesses of my brain, tells us that the players are now coming out on to the pitch.

It's a dead rubber but let's try and enjoy it eh? You never know when England will play in another World Cup...

Ed Avern:, external Starting Lampard over Henderson is a really stupid idea. Hope to see that substitution at half time.

Nick Hyde:, external Can't get excited about England and kinda hope we get beat by Costa Rica to be honest, at least they deserve to be in Brazil.

"There is a superb montage of memorable World Cup moments flashed on to the big screens before every game - suspect England have left it a little late to provide any images for the effort that will be compiled in four years' time."

Can you see any England players going to play abroad? Like Phil, I think it would do them a lot of good. But when Thomas Ince is reportedly turning down Inter Milan you have to wonder if it will ever happen...

    Former England defender Phil Neville
    BBC Radio 5 live

"I'm sure Roy Hodgson will be thinking what could we have done better? At this level you need three players in midfield, we have that now. Everyone has gone with three or four central midfielders and packed the midfield.

"In 2004 Germany started to blood the younger players, it took them four to six years, that is the philosophy England have got. We have to stay with that direction.

"Some of our players are needing to go abroad and experience European systems. That is something we are a little bit ignorant about."
