But Germany coach Joachim Low says he is "irritated" by talk of revenge surrounding this evening's game

"It is irritating when I read that this match is about vengeance," said Low.

"Most of the players on my team weren't even born (in 1982).

"Why should Algeria want to punish us? It's incomprehensible for me. Our players don't know anything about that (West Germany) team back then.

"It's not an issue for us. Maybe some on the other side want to make an issue out of it to motivate Algeria."

    Oooohhhh....

"We have not forgotten," Algeria coach Vahid Halilhodzic said. "Everybody has been talking about Algeria and Germany from 1982."

Algeria competed at the World Cup finals for the first time in Spain in 1982, and caused an upset in their opening group game with a 2-1 win over West Germany - then the European champions.

They finished with two wins and a defeat from their three matches, which they completed before West Germany and Austria met in the final group game and both went through.

Algerian officials launched a protest, claiming the match was fixed, but the allegations were never proved and the result stood.

Halilhodzic said. "Thirty-two years ago is a long time. I am very proud of what we have achieved in Brazil and we deserve to be here.

"I think Algeria played a heroic match and our qualification for the second round is perfectly deserved."

"The anger on the faces of the crowd is because they've been cheated, and Algeria may well feel that they have been cheated too. A match that can only be summed up as a disgrace."

Not my words, the words of Alan Parry back in 1982 as he commentated on 'The Digrace of Gijon'.

West Germany and Austria played out a 1-0 win for the Germans in their final group game, a result which ensured that both teams went through.

It was a farce, with neither side making any tackles or trying to score at all in the second half. The game led Fifa to ensure that final group games would kick-off at the same time in future, and the result also deprived Algeria of qualification.

Germany's Mario Gotze is expected to earn a recall against Algeria, with Lukas Podolski sidelined by a thigh injury suffered against the USA.

Bastian Schweinsteiger made his first start of the tournament in that game and could keep his place in midfield at the expense of Sami Khedira.

Full-back Jerome Boateng is expected to overcome a knee problem

Algeria have no reported injury concerns and could be unchanged from the side that drew with Russia.
