Ahmed al-Hasari:, external I think Algeria have done what they had to do, but unfortunately the journey will end at the hurdle of German machinery.

Bahari Mouhajir:, external If the Algeria squad of 1982 beat the best Germany squad ever, then why can't the 2014 squad win over an inferior team?

Joe Chapper:, external It's difficult for Algeria to win against Germany but it won't be impossible.

Excellent anthems from both sides, with Deutschland just pipping it on noise made. Algeria winning the beard war for sure.

African football journalist Mo Allie: "Algeria will be grinding to a halt and the entire Arab world will be grinding to a halt. Algeria are representing the Arab world. I think they can nick a win - with a goal from a set-piece."

That familiar music means it's time for the teams to emerge. Bastian Schweinsteiger taking the role of rabble rouser for the Germans, who look very, very relaxed. They've been here before so often that it's a matter of routine.

For Algeria this is a step into the unknown.

Handslaps all round in the tunnel - handshakes are dead it seems at this World Cup - as the sides line up. Here we go then, Germany v Algeria for the right to play France in the last eight. WAKE UP!

BBC Sport's David Ornstein in Porto Alegre

"Very low-key atmosphere inside Estadio Beira-Rio as kick-off approaches. There are certainly far more Germany fans here - reflecting their large local community - but neither set of supporters are making much noise on a dank afternoon in Porto Alegre. The highlight so far has been an a 'pitch invader' who didn't even make it to the pitch before being shackled. Poor attempt."

Cliffunited:, external Disappointed to see five changes in the Algerian line up and Yacine Brahimi not in the starting 11. He is Raheem Sterling-esque.

Counter-attack is king, or certainly in line for the throne, so those tactics may come up trumps for Algeria. Can they be the Real Madrid to Germany's Bayern Munich tonight?

African football journalist Mo Allie: "I think Algerian boss Vahid Halilhodzic has made his intentions clear with his team selection - he intends to stifle the Germans in midfield. And he appears to have told his players: 'when we attack, we bypass the midfield and go straight up to lone striker Slimani'. He's picking horses for courses and wants his players to look for a break and look for a set-piece to get the goal."

Unfortunately Germany will not be wearing that snazzy red and black number, they are in their traditional home kit of all white this evening.

Algeria - who will play in green - are summoned into a huge huddle involving all 23 players, the kit man, the coaching staff and it ends with a passionate cheer.

They are seriously up for this...

All the Germany players are keeping their tracksuit tops on during their warmups, as the rain threatens to come down in Porto Alegre. It looks pretty autumnal out there.

Algeria's World Cup pedigree is a long way short of Germany's - in fact this is their first ever game in the knockout stages.

After being denied a place in the second phase in 1982, they failed to progress in 1986 and 2010, scoring just once across the two competitions.

But this World Cup has been positively prolific, with the Desert Foxes scoring six times in Group H as they qualified behind Belgium.
