"You look at Argentina and on this performance they will struggle to win the World Cup."

Adam, Edinburgh: No team bar Colombia have truly deserved to go through to the quarters so far. The margins have been so fine.

Andrew, Belfast: That was one of the craziest finishes to one of one of the worst football matches of all-time.

Is that the last time we have seen Ottmar Hitzfeld in the dug-out? The Swiss coach had said before the World Cup that he would be retiring after the tournament.

Who know what might have happened had Blerim Dzemaili's header found the net instead of the post?

    Fine margins.

    Former England defender Danny Mills

"What a finish to the game. It was difficult for Xherdan Shaqiri to get the ball up and over the wall with that late free-kick, and the Argentina players spill out onto the pitch.

"That one moment of magic from Lionel Messi, who finally got the ball as Switzerland were getting tired, won the game. That is what it comes down to in huge games like this.

"You feel so sorry for the Swiss. They were excellent. Fatigue just crept in at the end in but they were so unlucky to hit the post."

"For 117 minutes this game was poor. It came alive in the last three minutes. It was a very good finish from Angel Di Maria."

Argentina are through but both Belgium and USA will be confident of facing Messi and Co in the quarter-finals on Saturday.

That was not a vintage display. Not by a long way.

But credit to Alejandro Sabella's men. They have won at the death for the second time in this tournament.

"Di Maria gets his reward for unbelievable perseverance. He may have had a poor game but no one comes near him for energy."

Despair for Switzerland as Xherdan Shaqiri thumps the set-piece into Argentina's wall.

That's it. Argentina are through - just.

"Oh that is so unlucky. It's a great header by the substitute Blerim Dzemaili, which hits the post and then comes back, hits his left knee and goes just the wrong side of the post. Diego Benaglio the goalkeeper was in there too."

This match is finishing at 100mph pace.

Angel Di Maria almost doubles Argentina's lead with an ambitious long range finish following a counter-attack.

Switzerland respond by winning a free-kick on the edge of Argentina's area. One last twist?

    Unbelievable.

Switzerland respond to falling behind by winning a corner and midfielder Blermin Dzemaili thunders a header against the post from a corner.

What a dramatic finish to a disappointing match.

"That was that one big chance you always expect to come in extra time. Angel Di Maria has been the best player on the pitch, but Lionel Messi, he is the man Argentina look to and he came up with it.

"Fabian Shar dived in on him but Messi rode the challenge with fantastic balance and rolled it out to Di Maria, who wasn't going to miss. A cool finish."

That Gym Guy:, external Di Maria has been the worst player on the pitch all game. He and Argentina don't deserve that.
