Nick: Superb defence from Costa Rica, but they're getting tired. Dutch to win it via a penalty in extra time.

Lynne: I can see this going to penalties. Netherlands have missed too many chances and Costa Rica haven't had that same attacking mentality we've seen up to now.

"That is a penalty. He has clipped his left leg. He goes down looking for it but I've seen them given in this World Cup."

  3. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 23:06 British Summer Time 5 July 2014

Now then! A huge penalty appeal but it's not Arjen Robben falling to the ground, it's Costa Rican sub Marcos Urena who goes down after a clumsy challenge from Ron Vlaar.

Nothing given. Was that a penalty...?

  4. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 23:05 British Summer Time 5 July 2014

The man from my intro, many hours ago, Jose Cubero, is on for Costa Rica. He scored a key goal two years ago when Costa Rica almost went out in the prelims, and now he's on in the finals.

Arthur Veldhoen:, external Costa Rica do not deserve to win and should be down to 10 men. Only one team playing to win here.

Samuel Smyth:, external Costa Rica will crack in extra-time. I can see the flood gates opening and Netherlands getting three.

  6. NAVAS DOWNpublished at 23:04 British Summer Time 5 July 2014

    Keylor Navas injured

And this is very, very bad news for Costa Rica. Keylor Navas landed on Dirk Kuyt as he flapped for that corner and need some treatment.

Stand-in Patrick Pemberton goes through some tentative warm-ups but Navas is back up on his feet. The game of his life, he continues...

Another save, another stop from Keylor Navas. He turns Ron Vlaar's header away from a corner.

And then a mistake from Navas as he comes for another corner, gets nowhere near it and Johnny Acosta bails him out with a goal-line clearance.

"We need to praise Costa Rica for getting to this stage because, like many others, I didn't think they would get anywhere the Dutch. But that backline have defended like heroes."

"Yeltsin Tejeda has done marvellously well to deflect Robin van Persie's shot anywhere. Costa Rica have rode their luck. They are an honest side, they defend in numbers and are hard to play against. They give everything they have for the shirt but Netherlands will be absolutely devastated if they do not win this game.

"We've had the chance at the end, the Wesley Sneijder free-kick, and the earlier chance for Van Persie. Van Persie looks a bit tired. When you have someone like Klaas Jan Huntelaar on the bench, I would bring him now on. He can finish."

Arjen Robben, in vest, chats to Louis van Gaal

Arjen Robben is now wearing some sort of vest, which I presume is to help him cool down. Can Costa Rica hang on?They are offering no attacking threat at all but they have Keylor Navas.

"How that stayed out I don't know. Incredible scenes at the end. Brilliant play from Netherlands but the ball from Daley Blind was just behind Stefan De Vrij, it then falls to Robin van Persie but his shot is blocked spectacularly on the line by Yeltsin Tejeda."
