In England 1966, North Korea looked on course for one of the greatest World Cup shocks of all time.

They led Portugal 3-0 at Goodison Park but unfortunately for them, Eusebio scored four goals to make it 5-3.

You can view highlights of that game on the BBC Sport website.

Eusebio scored nine goals in this tournament to win the Golden Shoe but they finished third after losing to England in the semi-finals.

I'm pretty sure that stand at Goodison Park is exactly the same now.

Two of our most extraordinary quarter-finals came in the same tournament, Switzerland 1954.

The hosts took a 3-0 lead within 19 minutes of their clash with Austria, but went on to lose 7-5 with Theodor Wagner scoring a hat-trick - the highest scoring World Cup game ever.

The following day in the 'Battle of Berne', Hungary beat Brazil 4-2, with English referee Arthur Ellis sending off three players.

He later said: "I thought it would be the best game I'd ever see in my life but it ended up being a battle. These days a lot of them would have been sent off. My only thought was to make sure that the match reached its end."

Hungary went on to lose 3-2 in the final to West Germany, who had eliminated Austria 6-1 in the semis.

Cuba have only ever been to one World Cup - it didn't end so well.

In 1938, they faced Sweden for a place in the semi-finals - it remains to this day the biggest margin of victory in a World Cup knockout game.

Sweden helped themselves to an 8-0 victory in France. Stats on who scored the goals are a bit hazy. Fifa credits Gustav Wetterstrom with a hat-trick, while others say he scored four. Tore Keller gets one goal from Fifa, while others record him scoring a hat-trick himself.

Either way they all agree it was 8-0 - and Sweden went on to lose the semi-final 5-1 to Hungary.

The Netherlands have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 11 World Cup knockout games, last keeping a shutout against Ireland in 1994.

And coach Louis van Gaal was not exactly banging the drum either.

"We're not a great team, but a team which is difficult to beat," he said on Friday

"So far we have shown that and I hope we can continue that up to and including the final."

BBC World's Alex South in Salvador: "Ahead of the game against the Netherlands I spent the day with four Costa Rica fans who say they are in a dream they don't want to wake up from.

"Chasing that dream isn't cheap though. They've all roughly spent £2,000 more than they budgeted for. They've changed their travel plans twice, slept on buses and can only afford to eat one meal a day.

"Would they change any of it? No. Will they stay in Brazil if they pull off another shock? Yes. This is what the World Cup is all about - watching your country defy the odds and sharing a once in a lifetime adventure with your friends."

Former Netherlands forward Ruud Gullit, speaking to BBC Sport: "Arjen Robben gets moments when it should be a penalty but it isn't given. Like the first one against Mexico he didn't get it and then later in the game he was trying to look for it. If he plays against you like that it is not nice but what can you say?

"There has been a lot of criticism of his diving and in Netherlands it is the same. If Robben was against us playing for Germany we would hate him."

Costa Rica coach Jorge Luis Pinto says Netherlands winger Arjen Robben must be punished if he dives in Salvador this evening.

Robben, 30, apologised for diving in the last-16 win over Mexico.

"I would like to ask Fifa and the referees to watch Robben," said Pinto. "We're really worried about his diving. He has admitted doing it."

Asked if Robben should be sent off if he dives, Pinto said: "That may be the most logical solution."

You'll have to go a long way down sport's list of upsets to match Costa Rica's efforts should the minnows reach the semi-finals.

But after beating Uruguay, Italy and Greece already the underdogs will fancy their chances again this evening.

Just under two years ago World Cup lover Rihanna was at number one with 'Diamonds'; Austrian skydiver Felix Baumgartner was just about to dive to earth from 24 miles up; and Costa Rica's World Cup dream was almost over before it had begun.

With two games left of their preliminary qualifying campaign the Ticos were in trouble. Two defeats to Mexico left them behind El Savador and staring at an early elimination.

But Jose Cubero stepped up to the oche when his country needed him. His winner in El Salvador was the catalyst as Costa Rica eventually qualified for the finals in Brazil.

And how they have taken their chance. Two years on coach Jorge Luis Pinto has steered his band of players to the last eight of the World Cup.

Can the country of 4.7m people, a team ranked below Scotland and Slovenia in the rankings, make it to the final four?

Netherlands midfield enforcer Nigel de Jong will miss the remainder of the tournament with a groin injury.

Wesley Sneijder has been nursing a slight back strain picked up in the win over Mexico and will be assessed.

Costa Rica goalkeeper Keylor Navas should be fit despite missing training earlier in the week with a shoulder injury.

The Central Americans have defensive problems, with Oscar Duarte banned and Roy Miller out with a foot problem.
