Love or hate Luis Suarez, you would have to have been living under a rock for the past year or so not to know all about him. What about the rest of his team though?

Atletico Madrid midfielder Cristian Rodriguez , is nicknamed "the onion" due to his ability to make opponents cry.

Rodriguez rode 170km (105 miles) on horseback during December, in 35 degree Celsius temperatures, to honour a religious promise that he would do the trek if Uruguay qualified for the World Cup finals.

Although forbidden to ride horses by Atletico, he did it anyway because: "a promise is a promise".

"Not sure what time the sun is above the yardarm here in Brazil but they clearly decided 8am was the time to tuck in."

Lineker also scored twice more in another 3-0 victory, this time against Paraguay, to set up a quarter-final against an Argentina side that included Diego Maradona.

His controversial first goal, later dubbed the 'Hand of God', saw him punch the ball into the net, before a stunning solo goal made it 2-0. Lineker pulled a goal back and later won the Golden Boot for finishing the competition as top scorer, but England were beaten 2-1 and were out.

The keystone of a Uruguay defence that is missing the injured Diego Lugano and the suspended Maxi Pereira is Atletico Madrid centre-back Diego Godin.

His equaliser away to Barcelona on the final day of the La Liga season gave Atletico their first Spanish title in 18 years.

Six days later he scored again in the Champions League final against Real Madrid and his goal was within 90 seconds of clinching the trophy. However Sergio Ramos' injury-time header took the game to extra time in which Real ran out 4-1 winners.

That took England into the second group stage, with three teams in each group. But they could only manage draws against West Germany and Spain as they were eliminated without losing.

The team's unrivalled number one for almost five years. He played every minute at the last World Cup, setting a new national record after not conceding in 338 minutes.

Although injured for the World Cup play-off wins over Jordan, he did support his team-mates in both legs against Jordan, along with his model girlfriend Patricia Callero.

She has probably won more titles than he has as Miss Bikini Universe 2013, Best Model of the world, Best Smile Turkey 2012, Miss Uruguay 2011 and Miss Italy 2010.

After winning plaudits against Italy, points are the priority for Roy Hodgson and England against Uruguay tonight according to BBC chief football writer Phil McNulty.

"Hodgson's men were rightly praised for the potential on show against Italy. Now, though, he and England need a win to go with all the compliments," he writes.

"All eyes will be on whether Uruguay risk Luis Suarez, who coach Oscar Tabarez admitted yesterday was not fully fit.

"Inevitably, England captain Steven Gerrard was asked about his Liverpool team-mate at regular intervals at last night's press conference.

"He admitted Suarez was 'a genius' - but also that he had absolutely no intention of having any contact with the striker before the game out of respect for his England team-mates.

"Instead, he revealed he would be finalising his planning for the game by studying his tablet computer in his hotel room."
