  2. 'England undone by poor Uruguay'published at 10:36 British Summer Time 20 June 2014

QPR manager Harry Redknapp on BBC Radio 4: "Luis Suarez was the difference. Uruguay brought back a world-class player and his goals were fantastic. He is better than anything we have.

"But it has been disappointing. I think it was an average Italy we lost to last week and last night, against a very poor Uruguay, we got undone. The way we are going you wouldn't bet against us beating Costa Rica.

"I'm sure Roy Hodgson should continue, he couldn't have done any more and you can see it was a happy camp.

"We should play the way that Liverpool played last season and when Roy does call it a day there are two young managers up on Merseyside in Roberto Martinez and Brendan Rodgers who are absolutely fantastic."

Mark Withers on text: Never thought I'd say this but John Terry, Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard should have been the backbone. Wayne Rooney is dispensable and Roy Hodgson should stay.

James in Brackley on text: No way should Hodgson resign, we play much better football under his management. Here's hoping for a few results to go our way. On the plus side we have scored more goals than Spain. #every cloud has a silver lining #keepbelieving.

  5. Hart disappointed with winning goalpublished at 10:15 British Summer Time 20 June 2014

England goalkeeper Joe Hart says the way Luis Suarez got free to score the decisive goal in Uruguay's 2-1 win via a long ball from his own defence was "disappointing".

"It's a hard one to take," Hart told BBC Radio 5 live.

"It's a long kick from the goalkeeper that has come straight through and he has smashed it past me. It's how it falls sometimes. In such a tight, intense game, for them to get in with that is so disappointing."

"It's not about picking your star players, it's about getting a balance of a side which is going to get you a result. We never do. The media is to blame as anybody else because when they drop somebody, or they play somebody in a different position, we're on the case straight away.

"How do you win football matches? You start from the back and then you get organised and if you've got two or three creative players, you build a side round certain players.

"That gets your side balanced. Not about having the best 11 flair players you can find. We never, ever, ever learn."
