Charlie Smith:, external What do we learn from that? Lallana and Sterling must start along with Henderson. Rooney not essential, Wilshere best as a sub.

Andrew Kemp:, external Decent performances from the expected players. Some seem to be off the boil with a couple leaving much to be desired. Good win.

Philip Carruthers:, external Play Smalling instead of Johnson, Wilshere instead of Henderson, Barkley instead of Rooney, and Sterling instead of Welbeck.

England manager Roy Hodgson, speaking to ITV: "It was a wonderful send off to the World Cup by a quite incredible crowd. We had to be patient but we were dominant throughout. It is the perfect end to a perfect two weeks. I am delighted that 85,000 fans came here to wish us well on our way.

"When you play against teams with 10 men behind the ball you have to be patient but I had no doubt we would win. They would tire and 3-0 is the minimal acceptable achievement. It was also good for some of the young players to get out here at Wembley."

  7. Player reactionpublished at 22:04 British Summer Time 30 May 2014

England goalscorer Daniel Sturridge, speaking to ITV: "It was difficult because Peru defended well, they were very compact. We have worked very hard in the week and there wasn't the match sharpness as we would have liked. It was a hard week in training.

"Definitely, [it was my best England goal] but it's not about myself, it's about the team. It's about great preparations, putting in shift tactically, and technically to achieve everything possible.

"We don't want to make the numbers up, we are winners. That doesn't mean we will win the World Cup but we are winners and we will do our best."

"I have been critical of England in the past, but tonight you saw a team that is going to play to their strengths. Let's not get carried away, but if they play well, they have a decent chance of getting out of their group.

"This was a good game for England and they were never going to be under any threat of losing. They could come here and not play at full speed. Roy Hodgson will be pleased with three goals, a clean sheet and some OK performances so there is something to build on."

The England players embark on a lap of honour to applaud the fans in attendance. That is it for them in England, as they fly off to Miami for their next two warm-up games on Sunday before venturing on to Brazil to prepare for their World Cup opener against Italy on 14 June.

The next time they are back on these shores will be after their World Cup campaign comes to an end. I wonder what the newspaper headlines will be when they do return?

Harry Short:, external Gerrard set-pieces with Jagielka, Cahill, Sturridge and Rooney on the end of them may prove to be vital at this World Cup.

Anthony B:, external England need a good team to get them out of fourth gear. That's why our group is good for us. Quality teams but beatable teams.

Kritt Normsaskul:, external Sterling and Lallana must play in the World Cup. England need to be more direct and these players give what England needs.

England play out the final few minutes in comfort before the referee brings the game to an end. Straightforward stuff for Roy Hodgson's men and, most likely, mission accomplished. No injuries, a solid win and some good goals to boot.

Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker:, external Headline from this game, is what does Roy do with Rooney? Now Sturridge is lead striker, where does he play him, if at all. Good problem.

  14. Postpublished at 21:50 British Summer Time 30 May 2014

Excellent football from Jack Wilshere as he shows great awareness to flick the ball past one Peru player, then stab a pass into space for James Milner. The Manchester City midfielder is not quick enough to get to it first, though. We are into four minutes of injury time.

Michael Carter: Good defence, I can see they will improve (play more to the 100%) at the World Cup. I really like the snappy play from defence through the midfield and into the front. If we're playing 3/4-speed then I'm feeling very happy with Roy's squad at the moment. There has been some scares - but clearly we are playing well under full steam - so, come on England.

Amin Elhassan ‏on Twitter:, external It is a friendly and with all due respect to Peru, not exactly a team to boast about beating. Great preparation though.

"I expect Raheem Sterling to start the next friendly. He offers something different. He's the only player in the England squad with what I would call out and out blistering pace. For me, he has to be a certain starter."

Ross Barkley soon makes his presence known as he drives forward after Danny Welbeck steals the ball off a Peru defender. Barkley slips a pass to Raheem Sterling on his left, just inside the area, but the Liverpool winger's sidefooted effort drifts wide of the post as he attempts to guide it home. Good stuff from the youngsters though.

A massive cheer, probably the biggest of the night, goes up as a paper aeroplane floats on to the pitch and hits bemused Peru substitute Hansell Riojas. It might not have been the most scintillating game of football, but the fans have certainly found their own source of amusement.

  19. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:41 British Summer Time 30 May 2014

Ross Barkley does indeed come on and it is Daniel Sturridge who is the man to make away, Danny Welbeck moves up as the lone striker, with Everton midfielder Barkley in the hole.

"It looks like we're about to see Ross Barkley. He's going through a rigorous workout but 10 minutes isn't really enough. He might touch the ball four or five times. We want to see more of Ross Barkley than that."
