The curtain has come down on the group stage. It's knockout football all the way now. This World Cup is only just getting started.

Panic!

After 15 days and 48 action-packed games, Friday is a rest day in Brazil. What on earth are we supposed to do with ourselves?

You're supposed to be on the pitch, Oleg. It's been a bad night for Russia. They're out of the World Cup after failing to defeat Algeria and here's midfielder Oleg Shatov after accidently running into his own team-mates in the dug-out.

Algeria's march into the knockout stages means it is the first time that two countries from Africa have progressed beyond the group stages at the same World Cup finals. They are joined in the last-16 by Nigeria.

Algeria are the sixth team from Africa to make the knockout stages at a World Cup after Morocco, Cameroon, Senegal, Nigeria and Ghana.

Matt, Cornwall: Keeper blunders cost Fabio Capello at two World Cups. Tactically he looked just as poor as with England. At least we know the grass wouldn't have been greener with him.

Ian Mac, Portugal: Fifa need to find the laser villain and give him a firm slap on the wrist.

Russia manager Fabio Capello is furious that his team were not awarded a penalty against Algeria: "Look, I'm disappointed. I don't like to speak about referees but every time they're against Russia. We should have had a penalty. I don't understand why all the referees are against us."

Capello has won only one of his seven matches as a World Cup manager.

So that means Algeria now face Germany in the last-16. And it gives the North Africans an opportunity to earn revenge for their elimination at the 1982 World Cup in Spain. West Germany lost to Algeria in their opening fixture, but then beat neighbours Austria 1-0 in their final group game - a result that sent both European teams through at the Desert Foxes' expense.

Sunday 29 June: Netherlands v Mexico - 17:00 BST; Costa Rica v Greece - 21:00 BST.

Monday 30 June: France v Nigeria - 17:00 BST; Germany v Algeria - 21:00 BST.

Tuesday 1 July: Argentina v Switzerland - 17:00 BST; Belgium v USA - 21:00 BST.

"Russia were shocking at the last Euros, and they never seem to improve. Everyone thinks that they'll do well, because the Russian League looks quite strong. But they don't have any width or clever players.

"They've no one who can beat anyone. They've never had a number nine and they're clueless going forward. There's nothing to them."

So the group stages are over.

And there goes South Korea's World Cup.

Belgium advance to the second round with a maximum nine points from three games. Only Colombia, Netherlands and Argentina have managed that.

Algeria are through to the last-16 of the World Cup for the first time. Fabio Capello and Russia are out of the World Cup.

Algeria are known as the Desert Foxes but they are playing like Desert Wolves.

They are still tearing into Russia in the final moments.

Sofiane Feghouli, with a white bandage wrapped around his head after an earlier clash, drives forward.

Algeria are almost there.

Corner to Russia. We're in the final two minutes.

Up leaps Aleksei Kozlov but the Dynamo Moscow defender heads wide.
