Ash in Leeds, via text: Feel sorry for Felix Magath. His old team are outplaying the champions of England while his current team are being outplayed by, well, everyone.

Gareth in Watford, via text: Anyone care to lay any bets on Britt Assombalonga getting capped by England during the current Euros qualifying campaign? At this rate I can see someone like Leicester taking a punt on him during the mid-season transfer window and then once he's in the Prem anything is possible.

Schalke test Thibaut Courtois for the first time, as one-time Spurs and Pompey midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng rattles one in on target from 25 yards but the Chelsea number one is there to push clear.

Five minutes of the half remaining.

It's raining goals in Rome where Roma are now 4-0 up against CSKA Moscow, Gervinho helping himself to two of them. The former Arsenal man has scored as many goals in one Champions League game for the Serie A club as he did in 11 matches for the Gunners.

  4. CLOSE!published at 20:24 British Summer Time 17 September 2014

And another chance for Bayern! Robert Lewandowski is the latest man to steal in between defence and Joe Hart, again he tries to go around the England keeper and again Hart is in the way. What a half from Joe Hart.

  6. CLOSE!published at 20:23 British Summer Time 17 September 2014

Chelsea are really playing some excellent stuff this season! What a move this is as Branislav Ivanovic storms into space down the right, hooks over a lovely first-time cutback and Cesc Fabregas arrives on it superbly. Great timing of the run - but this time he leans back and skies his shot! Great opening.

I understand the theory of playing Edin Dzeko up front on his own in games like this, but in practice I'm not sure it ever really works. He is made to look slow and cumbersome when isolated and at the moment he just can't keep hold of the ball. Mr S. Aguero will be coming on in the second half, surely?

  8. GREAT SAVE!published at 20:19 British Summer Time 17 September 2014

Bayern Munich shift to a 4-4-2 and instantly David Alaba thumps in a cracking 25-yarder, full pelt, and again Joe Hart is steady as a rock behind it, pushing the ball out of the danger zone.

Monty Madman:, external We need Milner on for Nasri to close Lahm down. If not a goal is coming from the right for Bayern

Paul Gibbons:, external Yaya is the weak link in this City team at the moment he looks so disinterested.

FootyOgrapher:, external As a Chelsea fan, I'm glad we did sign Remy to remedy things in the absence of Costa, as Drogba is not the force he used to be

The first glimpse of new Chelsea left-back Filipe Luis's wandish left peg, whipping over a beautiful cross and Didier Drogba thuds the header into the chest of Ralf Fahrmann. A fine target to aim for.

Twenty-five passes attempted. Twenty-five passes completed.

If David Silva loses the ball a fairy dies.

Chance at the end of another one of his passes as Edin Dzeko drags a 20-yard shot across goal. Decent position that.

Opta Joe:, external Britt Assombalonga has now scored seven goals in his last six Championship games for Nottingham Forest.

After opening the scoring against Fulham the former Peterborough striker has now added a second from the penalty spot.

Chelsea look eminently comfortable in their 1-0 lead. Not many sides will pick up points at Stamford Bridge this season you'd fancy.

"All the City players are a yard off the Bayern players at the moment. It's all too easy to go through them and Munich are playing their three at the back system very well, giving City no chance."

  16. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 20:11 British Summer Time 17 September 2014

Bayern wanted another penalty with that last chance, as Mario Gotze's shot deflected off the elbow of Vincent Kompany. Nothing given, and the Belgian had no way of getting out the way of that. Great save all the same...

Rupert Arvidsson:, external Fabregas is the new Lampard, goals from midfield. He's even copying Frank's 'slap the badge' celebration.

Daniel Woodley:, external @cesc4official should have been sent off before that Chelsea goal. He clearly fouled his man. Shocking tackle

Hashim Albahbahani:, external Only disappointing thing about Fabregas's goal is that it wasn't assisted by Fabregas.

Frustration for Barcelona at the Nou Camp where the four-time European champions are being held by Apoel Nicosia. Lionel Messi has forced a save from a free-kick but the champions of Cyprus are holding their own.

Goals elsewhere as Roma, who are in the same group as Manchester City, are already 3-0 up against CSKA Moscow, Juan Iturbe, former Arsenal forward Gervinho and Maicon finding the net.

Edinson Cavani has given Paris St-Germain the lead in Amsterdam against Ajax while Porto lead Bate Borisov thanks to Yacine Brahimi, who played for Algeria at the World Cup.

  19. GREAT SAVE!published at 20:09 British Summer Time 17 September 2014

Joe Hart again! A save good enough to almost forgive him those shampoo adverts as he instinctively keeps out a deflected effort from Mario Gotze! The World Cup winner was only about eight yards out when he met a cross from the right and Hart kept it out superbly.

Yaya Toure then leads the counter for City, and Edin Dzeko curls a shot just past the post. Good stuff on offer from both sides here.

"That was a great save. Bayern would expect to have scored from that, it was a superb ball in and either side of Joe Hart that would have been a goal. City are all over the place at the moment."
