  5. Jose on for a treble?published at 18:59 British Summer Time 17 September 2014

There'll be no slacking from Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho tonight.

Jose is aiming to become the first manager to win the Champions League with three difference clubs, having triumphed with Porto in 2004 and then with Inter Milan in 2010.

"What drives me is to try to win," he said. "I work for my club, for my players and for the club supporters. I don't work for myself.

"If I win it once more, to win with three clubs is unique. But even if I don't do it, how many top managers in the world have only one or even not a single one? The greatest in our country [Sir Alex Ferguson], he won it twice.

"If at the end of my career I've achieved that situation, then good, but it's far from being an obsession and it's not something that I think about a lot.

"We have a championship of six matches and three opponents in Group G and we have to do everything to qualify."

Dan from Formby, via text: Start of the season, the girlfriend painted my big toe blue when I was asleep. Diego Costa banged in a goal & we won. She's painted it the same for every game since and we've won them all. Plot twist - she hasn't had the chance to do it today. Potential end of form? I sincerely hope not.

One of the best pre-match rituals I've heard...

Bayern line-up without star forwards Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben, who both have knee injuries, although Robben is on the bench. It's all very familiar in tonight's other Anglo-German clash too.

Chelsea played Schalke in last season's group stage, beating them 3-0 home and away. Jose Mourinho found it so easy that three strikers he thought weren't up to the task - Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto'o and Demba Ba - whacked five past Die Knappen.

    What might Diego Costa manage?

    Ribery & RobbenImage source, PA

Think Bayern Munich and you possibly think of Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben, tearing up and down the flanks, cutting in and hammering in shots.

Well, the good news for Manchester City is that both miss out tonight.

Former France international Ribery, 31, returned from a long-term knee injury last Saturday, but Bayern boss Pep Guardiola said he would not feature yesterday.

Robben is also nursing a knee injury and will miss the game. Bonus for the Brits...

Tonight is the start of Manchester City's fourth season in the Champions League - and it's the third time they have been matched up with German giants Bayern.

City lost 2-0 in Munich in 2011 - when Carlos Tevez refused (possibly, allegedly, definitely/maybe) to come off the bench - but took the three points home last season, James Milner sweeping in the winner late on.

There's no 'good time' to play a team like Bayern - but there are a few positive signs for Manuel Pellegrini ahead of this evening's clash...

  19. Team Newspublished at 18:34 British Summer Time 17 September 2014

Manchester City make four changes from the team which started at Arsenal at the weekend - Edin Dzeko is up front as Sergio Aguero drops to the bench.

There is no Arjen Robben or Franck Ribery in the Bayern team.

Bayern XI: Neuer, Alonso, Benatia, Lewandowski, Rafinha, Boateng, Bernat, Gotze, Lahm, Muller, Alaba

Man City XI: Hart, Sagna, Demichelis, Kompany, Clichy, Fernandinho, Yaya Toure, Navas, Silva, Nasri, Dzeko

The Arsenal defence will be having nightmares of swarms of yellow-shirted attackers for a few more nights yet. Dortmund were incessant from the off last night, they wanted it more than Arsenal - or appeared to anyway.

Jurgen Klopp called his side 'a pressing machine' as they tore into the Gunners, not allowing them a moment's peace. Can Bayern and Schalke repeat the trick this evening?
