Chelsea can play a bit too you know. Lovely play again, this time Oscar threading a ball through the eye of a needle to find Andre Schurrle, who makes those late runs as well as anyone. He's in, tries to go round keeper Rui Patricio but the Sporting skipper makes a big save again.

Manchester City put together some slick stuff themselves but it ends as Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa rather crudely hacks through the back of Edin Dzeko. City have had 47% of the ball so far.

Dale, Midsomer Norton: William Carvalho is a good player with tons of potential for Sporting. Going to be given a lesson tonight from Matic about turning potential into pure quality though.

A text from the murder capital of the UK! Stay safe.

Well that did not last long did it?

Barcelona's first attack since PSG took the lead results in a goal and it is a lovely one as Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta exchange passes before the former sweeps home.

Andre Schurrle almost breaches the last line of Sporting defence but his cross/shot is well charged down by a sliding defender. Chelsea have started predictably brightly.

It has taken 640 minutes of football but Barcelona's defence has finally been broken this season as Paris St-Germain take the lead, and it is a familiar name for Chelsea fans, David Luiz poking home following a free-kick.

"Eventful start for former Manchester City defender Maicon - giving a penalty away at one end then hitting the bar at the other.

"Roma coach Rudi Garcia looked completely nonplussed at the penalty award but it was daft defending, to put it politely, by the veteran Brazilian."

Maicon in behind again - offside this time but danger signs for Manchester City from their former full-back.

Daniel Woodley:, external That was awful defending. I would say I am surprised but I am not. It is Maicon after all...

  12. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 19:53 British Summer Time 30 September 2014

What a minute for Maicon against his old club! The Roma right-back latches on to Francesco Totti's clever chip to beat the offside trap before leathering a shot past Joe Hart and against the underside of the crossbar.

He had three men over in support but went for the shot. Remember that insane goal he scored in the World Cup of 2010? He likes a goal from an acute angle and nearly had another belter there.

  17. GREAT SAVE!published at 19:49 British Summer Time 30 September 2014

Chelsea should be ahead! Ridiculous high line from Sporting Lisbon, who must not have seen Chelsea play at all this season! A carbon copy of his early goal at Everton as Cesc Fabregas plays Diego Costa clean through, he has an ocean of time to decide what to do with it and in the end Rui Patricio makes a good save to keep him out.

    Should be 1-0 though.
