"Wayne Rooney's goal has really taken the wind out of Scotland's sails - the crowd has quietened and England look in complete control. This was shaping up as a real test for Roy Hodgson's team but so far they are passing it in style."

Danny Welbeck is down! He signalled to the bench that he had an issue, then put in a 40-yard sprint to close the ball down, which left him in real trouble. Raheem Sterling is warming up.

There will be no fireworks from Ikechi Anya tonight, he's off and Barry Bannan is on.

Andrew Robertson resorts to hoof mode, slamming the ball 50 yards downfield to nobody, and Gordon Strachan gives him both barrels. That's not the way son, not the way. He had a fine first half, the Hull left-back, but like the rest of his team-mates has looked below par since the restart.

Scotland have half an hour to rescue this.

"Chris Smalling has to do better! Five yards out, almost a free header, but he didn't make a proper connection. It was almost as though he thought he'd already scored it. He was celebrating before actually completing the header."

    Willie Miller
Former Scotland midfielder on BBC Radio Scotland

"England on top form. They're moving the ball at a frightening pace and willing to get forward.

"They're very much in control of this game at present."

Jack Wilshere tries another searching, raking ball and it's headed away for a corner. Adam Lallana whips it in and Chris Smalling would surely make it three with a telling connection - but he can't meet it properly.

Dave from Oxford: Scotland proving that passion alone gets you nowhere. Class will out. Not saying England are world class, but there is a gap between the two sides.

Whether England have raised it or Scotland have gone off the boil, I'm not sure, but all of a sudden the England midfield look the business. Jack Wilshere is involved three times in a high-class passing move which ends with James Milner's 15-yard strike being well blocked by a blue shirt. Scotland need to respond, and respond quick, or the game could be gone.

Wayne Rooney steps out on to the left wing and teases a ball across the area - good claim by Craig Gordon this time though. Darren Fletcher looks well off the pace.

"It's a shame for Gordon Strachan because he made changes up front, but Scotland have not had a chance to benefit from them before the Rooney goal."

  13. GREAT SAVE!published at 21:13 Greenwich Mean Time 18 November 2014

Better! Dead-ball specialist Charlie Mulgrew delivers an excellent deep ball from wide on the left, Russell Martin loops a header on goal from 12 yards out and Fraser Forster is called into action for the first time, tipping over the top. Perhaps a set-piece is Scotland's best route back into the game?

Ireland have retaken the lead against the USA in Dublin through Hull City's Robbie Brady.

His 55th minute left-foot finish was supplied yet again by Ipswich Town's David McGoldrick, who's having a debut to remember tonight.

Gordon Strachan looks bemused and confused in the Scottish dugout. His half-time team-talk has been ripped up, that goal coming inside 90 seconds of the restart. The away fans are buoyant now.

"It was a really good header from Rooney, who had to generate all the pace from seven or eight yards out. He was there to pounce on the second cross. He will be absolutely delighted with that, and Scotland now are really on the back foot."

He just keeps scoring for England! A stramash in the penalty area as a free-kick is not dealt with, Andrew Robertson can't react and just diverts the ball into the path of Wayne Rooney, who heads home and ensures that Craig Gordon's first touch is to fish the ball out of the net.

Rooney celebrates with the travelling fans. Pandemonium.

That's 45 goals for England for Wayne Rooney.
