Former Scotland midfielder on BBC Radio Scotland

"This is a very good performance from England so far.

"Everything is just about right for an away performance. Shape, pace and intensity.

"There's been some half-chances for Scotland and when they do get forward, they'll need some support from midfield."

Corner ball! Steven Whittaker's shot spins behind for another dead ball. Grant Hanley has a shot blocked by Gary Cahill and then hello! Here we go.

The first full-blooded challenges of the night as Wayne Rooney and then Danny Welbeck get tasty with Shaun Maloney. Players immediately back to their feet, Welbeck getting involved...

    Former Scotland international Pat Nevin

"Both teams look very good going down their respective left sides. This is frenetic stuff, and I don't think things will calm down one iota for at least another 10 minutes."

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Celtic Park

"England have started with the sort of tempo that eluded them against Slovenia but also some hints of encouragement for Scotland through the pace of Watford's Ikechi Anya. Wayne Rooney's partnership with Danny Welbeck has also shown signs of threat but, in playing terms, this has been a relatively sedate opening."

Stewart Downing's first cross of the night is poor and behind his team-mates. Scotland go direct and Luke Shaw puts Steven Naismith on the ground! No foul given. Perhaps Shaw shouldn't lose too much weight after all...

Ian in Dumbarton: Whittaker is the weak link in our team tonight. Four minutes in and he was on his backside twice - England almost got in because of him. I will be proved correct, but I hope I'm not!

James from Watford: No Liverpool players in the starting line up. That'll please Brendan Rogers, but sign of how out of form Sterling, Henderson and Lallana are.

Scotland scored with a very inventive corner against Ireland - and they work is short again. This time it comes to Steven Whittaker 25 yards out. He's hesitant but eventually shoots, but it's well charged down this time.

At the other end Scott Brown loses out and Wayne Rooney would be in if Danny Welbeck's pass is better...

Ikechi Anya is the outlet for Scotland, skipping away again and winning a corner. Whata few years he's had. From relegation battles with Northampton Town to scoring past Manuel Neuer...

    Gary Caldwell
Former Scotland defender on BBC Radio Scotland

"When Scotland have got it forward, they've looked quite dangerous.

"But, England are dominating possession a bit too easily at the minute and we're sitting off them a bit in midfield."

You're not wrong Oscar, Wembley hasn't been this loud since the Foo Fighters headlined there. Cracking noise at Celtic Park, and the hosts are responding. Coming more into the game, Charlie Mulgrew the pivot in midfield.

Oscar Marchant:, external England fans could take a lesson from the Scottish here. This atmosphere will make it interesting!

Former Scotland midfielder on BBC Radio Scotland

"England do attack you very quickly and Stephen Whittaker's been caught on the ball a few times already.

"David Marshall was smart to get down and save early there and thankfully there were no white shirts around to pounce on the rebound."

Better from Scotland. Ikechi Anya breaks a tackle on the left before pinging it out wide, where Luke Shaw is stripped by Steven Whittaker. Back out to the left, electric pace from Anya to get clear but he just runs out of room and it goes behind for a goal kick.

    That's encouraged the crowd.

    Former England international Danny Mills

"Really good on the break from England. Why did they not start like this at the weekend? Welbeck had a really good opportunity there, but unfortunately his left side is not his strongest and his shot was scuffed."

  15. CLOSE!published at 20:09 Greenwich Mean Time 18 November 2014

Very open! Steven Whittaker is tackled by Danny Welbeck, no free-kick given, and England are away. Wayne Rooney drives through the middle, finds Welbeck on his left but the Arsenal man's left-footer is a long way from convincing. Weak, and David Marshall pushes it out. Stewart Downing can't follow in and Scotland clear.

An impressive opening from England, who have bossed the game, not allowing the hosts to find that rhythm and pace which was so evident against Republic of Ireland.

Ipswich Town's David McGoldrick provided the assist for his right-foot finish.

Elsewhere, Brazil have beaten Austria 2-1. A David Luiz header and a Roberto Firmino right-foot drive into the top corner came either side of a Aleksandar Dragovic penalty.

  18. CLOSE!published at 20:06 Greenwich Mean Time 18 November 2014

England find pace and space with ease, Wayne Rooney teeing up Luke Shaw on the overlap and earning an early corner. The delivery finds Gary Cahill climbing high to win a header - which drifts just wide! Almost the perfect start for England.
