"Ikechi Anya has burning pace, it is spectacular. He will pose a very interesting challenge for Nathaniel Clyne tonight, because he outran Seamus Coleman at the weekend.

"He's been a great spot by Gordon Strachan and the Scotland team, having come through Glen Hoddle's second-chance setup in Spain."

Chris Martin has 12 goals for Championship leaders Derby this season. What better time to score his first Scotland goal than against England?

England were incredibly dull to watch for an hour against Slovenia until Jordan Henderson scored an own goal. They cannot afford to play at that pace this evening.

In contrast, Scotland were terrific against the Republic of Ireland. Pace, power, passion, you name it...

Nicola: The English appear very cocky already. Funny, when you appear to be a park-the-bus side these days...

We may have Chris Martin and Stewart Downing to enjoy in Glasgow, but at Old Trafford there is another clash of the titans: Cristiano Ronaldo v Lionel Messi.

The two go head-to-head on the international stage for just the second time as Ronaldo's Portugal take on Messi's Argentina in a friendly at Old Trafford.

Both scored in the the previous meeting in February 2011, a 2-1 victory for the South Americans. What can they produce tonight?

    Former England international Danny Mills
    BBC Radio 5 live

"I never played against Scotland. In my time Scotland were on the decline and there was a period where Scottish football tailed off. But I'm really looking forward to the atmosphere this evening. This place will be rammed to the rafters. Wembley has been accused of being a bit quiet recently. That will not be the case here tonight.

"At full-back for England, I think the right-back position is Nathaniel Clyne's to hold onto. He must take this opportunity by the scruff of the neck. No-one has taken on that role impressively since Gary Neville. He plays there for his club and can play there now for England."

  10. Team Newspublished at 19:14 Greenwich Mean Time 18 November 2014

BBC Sport chief football writer Phil McNulty at Celtic Park

"Contrasting approaches from the two managers in their team selections. Scotland manager Gordon Strachan makes just one change from the team that beat the Republic of Ireland in their Euro 2016 qualifier as he brings in striker Chris Martin for injured Steven Fletcher while England counterpart Roy Hodgson makes six alterations from the 3-1 win against Slovenia.

"Former Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster returns to familiar territory in goal and there is a notable return for Stewart Downing, having a fine season at West Ham, as he makes his first appearance for England since Hodgson's first game in charge in Norway in May 2012."

Chris Martin will be hoping to break his Scotland duck after being handed a start this evening, after coming off the bench in the win over the Republic of Ireland on Friday night.

The Derby County striker was born in Suffolk and played for England Under-19s but qualifies for Scotland because his father was born in Glasgow.

    The Don One, Scholesy Two

Before last season's meeting at Wembley the previous clash between the old enemies had been a two-legged play-off for Euro 2000.

Paul Scholes was England's hero of the hour, scoring twice in a 2-0 first-leg win at Hampden. But Don Hutchison ensured a nervy wait for Kevin Keegan and co as he forced home the winner at Wembley.

England went through 2-1 on aggregate though.

If anyone in the England camp doesn't fancy it tonight - there's a stand-in in the wings.

Terry Butcher continues: "I'm not sure the old legs would carry me now but I know one thing - when this game kicks off on Tuesday I'd love to be out there."

Butcher is 55. Still do a job I'm sure...

"I didn't think Gordon Strachan would have selected the same team after all the effort expended at the weekend. But he has done. His players have talked him into it - they want to play.

"There's a magnitude to this match, and players will not be able just to go through the motions tonight. There will be too much noise, too much passion, and the excitement has been ramped up over the last few days.

"For Scots, for the first time in a long time they feel like they've got a chance."

Gary Cahill and Chris Smalling will have plenty of experience of playing against Steven Naismith from the Premier League, can the Everton man make the difference for Scotland this evening?

He has been in fine form this season and was dangerous for Scotland v Ireland too.

    Terry Butcher.

A man famous for bleeding for the cause as England captain, and a man who has managed Motherwell, Inverness Caledonian Thistle and latterly Hibernian. He understands the special passions that will be stirred by England's first international in Scotland since 1999.

He said: "There will be a huge noise and great hostility. When I played at Celtic Park in Old Firm games you couldn't hear yourself think or speak. You couldn't make yourself heard to the person five yards away.

"Make no mistake, this date will have been marked on every Scotland football fan's calendar since the day it was confirmed. Scotland and England don't do 'friendly' in football.

    "It will be manic."

    "Gascoigne...Oh brilliant! Oh yes!!"

Not my words, the words of John Motson.

Perhaps the biggest meeting of the two sides came at Wembley during the group stage of Euro 96. Scotland's Gary McAllister saw his penalty saved by David Seaman with the scores poised at 1-0, and moments later Paul Gascoigne sealed victory for England with a brilliant goal.

Darren Anderton knocked the ball down the line, Gazza flipped it over the head of Colin Hendry and crunched the ball home.

Welcome back Stewart Downing. The West Ham winger's last England cap came in May 2012 but has been given an international lifeline after impressing for the Hammers this season.

His club manager Sam Allardyce described him as the best midfielder in the Premier League on current form in October. "I don't think there is anybody playing in midfield that is better than Stewart Downing," he said.

Just two years and 176 days since his last cap...
