  1. TEN TO GOpublished at 21:23 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2014

More discontent from the home stands as Roma needlessly give away possession in the City half, and then concede a free-kick close the halfway line.

City edging closer to their second straight appearance in the last 16 of the Champions League. Ten minutes to go in Rome. And 10 minutes to go in Munich, where a CSKA Moscow goal would change nothing.

  2. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:22 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2014

City striker Edin Dzeko has put in a decent shift on his first start for over a month. The Bosnian claps the travelling supporters before having his weary legs replaced by the fresh Stevan Jovetic.

Groans from the demanding Roma fans as Pablo Zabaleta - for once tonight - nips in ahead of his Roma opponent to win back possession. Those moans will be music to City's collective ears.

Barcelona and Paris St-Germain are of course battling it out for top spot in that group, with the Catalan club leading 2-1 to nick it.

Meanwhile, Ajax are now 3-0 ahead against Apoel in Group F's other match in Amsterdam thanks to a second goal from Schone and their third of the night from Davy Klassen.

Mikel San Jose has given Athletic Bilbao a flying start to the second half of their Group H match against BATE Borisov.

It won't have any bearing on qualification from that group though with Porto and Shakhtar Donetsk already through.

Shakhtar themselves are a goal ahead at Porto through Taras Stepanenko.

In Chelsea's group, Schalke have taken the lead against Maribor courtesy of Max Meyer, a scoreline which would see them qualify as runners-up as things stand.

"That was almost Gordon Banks like from Joe Hart to touch Manolas's header onto the post. How he has saved that I don't know. The pressure is building."

Nervy times there for City, but they manage to regroup quickly after that double scare.

And then City defender Martin Demichelis comes to his team's rescue by blocking a shot on his own goal-line.

Joe Hart, for the first time tonight, went walkabout as he failed to deal with a low cross. But can thank his Argentine colleague for stopping Roma substitute Mattia Destro making an instant impact.

Not a dream night for the Champions League's oldest goalscorer - although Francesco Totti has enjoyed plenty of those over the years. He trots off in place of Italy forward Mattia Destro.

  10. SUBSTITUTIONS - Silva on for Citypublished at 21:11 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2014

And that is Adem Ljajic's last contribution as the Roma midfielder is replaced by Juan Manuel Iturbe, a tricky Argentine winger who the Serie A side splashed big cash on last summer.

Equally importantly for City fans is a change of their own seconds later. A huge cheer from the away fans greets the return of David Silva who has missed eight matches with a knee problem. He replaces Spanish compatriot Jesus Navas.

City's travelling band of fans po-go, and Poznan, in delight as the delighted City players celebrate in front of them.

They know that Roma must score twice now to stand any chance of qualifying. And that should leave a few gaps at the back for the visitors to exploit.

City boss Manuel Pellegrini gasps with relief on the touchline. As do 1,500 City fans in the Stadio Olimpico. Miralem Pjanic pounces on a loose ball and fancies a dig from distance. The Bosnian does exactly that, forcing Joe Hart into a splendid save low down to his right.
