"You have to look at the manager. Mike Ashley has brought in players, I don't know whether Alan Pardew wanted them or not but whatever team he puts out, they have to go out there and get the win and they haven't been getting them. For me, the fault lies with the manager.

"When you go to Newcastle and the home fans are behind them the away team know they are in for a game, but the situation now will have a detrimental effect on the Newcastle players."

  2. Sparky all setpublished at 12:27 British Summer Time 20 September 2014

Stoke manager Mark Hughes on BT Sport: "We are frustrated with our home form, but away from home we've been good. We need a similar level of performance today as we had against Manchester City, where we won 1-0.

"The reception from the fans today? It doesn't surprise me, it won't faze me. You come to a club, you try your best and if it doesn't work out you are liable to get a bad reception."

We would love to know which former faces got a warm return when they came back to your club - and, perhaps more interestingly, which didn't.

Luke Nicholls:, external Greatest reception will be when Rickie Lambert returns to St. Mary's. He left, but all the Saints fans still love him.

Jamie Millar:, external Clint Dempsey back to Fulham twice was a weird one. First time was pretty hostile and the re-joining was pretty indifferent.

Matt Horsman:, external King Rudi Skacel coming back to Hearts with Dundee Utd. Standing ovation on 51st minute after his heroics in 5-1 cup final win.

  4. Lawro's predictionpublished at 12:24 British Summer Time 20 September 2014

    Mark Lawrenson

"It looks like QPR will be relying heavily on their home form to stay up, but I am not convinced they will regularly pick up points at Loftus Road either.

"Stoke, meanwhile, have had such a strange start to the season. You could argue that they had the best result of any top-flight team when they went to Etihad Stadium and beat champions Manchester City, but the Potters have also lost both their home games, against Aston Villa and Leicester."

  5. MISSED PENALTYpublished at 12:21 British Summer Time 20 September 2014

Ian Harte has just missed a huge chance to put the visitors in front from the spot. Callum Wilson got the wrong side of Gabriel Tamas and was bundled to the ground by the Romanian.

The former Republic of Ireland man stepped up and hit his penalty two yards wide.

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure on Football Focus: "Over the summer there was a lot of speculation about birthday cakes and rubbish like that and it was disappointing for me.

"I've been in Manchester for four or five years now and I have never demanded a birthday cake. My agent made a little joke about it and people took it seriously. I was quite surprised about the way people and the media reacted to that."

Brian Clough cheered by fansImage source, Empics

Mick in south-east London: Down at The Den when Millwall played Forest many years ago. The tunnel to the changing rooms came out from under the Cold Blow Lane home terrace and that gave us Lions fans plenty of time to make our feelings known to visiting managers. Many suffered relentless abuse as they had to walk half the length of the pitch to the dugout.

When Brian Clough walked out, in his bright green sweatshirt, he got a standing ovation all the way to the dugout. I've never known anything like it. Oh, and we drew 2-2 with a last minute goal from Razor Ruddock. Great game, great memories.

I would have loved to have seen him as England manager in these Premier League times!

Mike in Sheffield: A certain Mr Owen got a very unpleasant welcome when he returned to St James' with Manchester United. And deservedly so, in my opinion.

Spencer: The whole of the Emirates sang for "Super Robert Pires" throughout the entire game when he returned with Villarreal for a Champions League match. The whole ground celebrated like crazy when Eduardo knocked in a late consolation goal for Shakhtar too.

Joe, Birmingham City fan: Peter Enckleman's return to St Andrews when he played for Blackburn. The whole of the ground singing "Enckleman's a bluenose" and getting a huge round of applause following that goal against Villa in 2002! Hero's welcome!

European heavyweights Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are both in action later, while Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri is returning to the club that sacked him.

It is not often Real kick-off at 15:00 BST on a Saturday but the European champions are doing just that as they look to avoid a third straight La Liga defeat away to Deportivo La Coruna.

Bayern, buoyed by their midweek Champions League win over Manchester City, return to domestic action away to the Bundesliga's bottom club Hamburg (14:30 BST) while it is first versus second in Serie A as AC Milan entertain Juventus (19:45 BST)

Allegri was dismissed by Milan in January after three-and-a-half-years in charge but succeeded Antonio Conte as boss of the Italian champions in July.

You can follow live text commentary of Milan v Juventus - as well as Atletico Madrid v Celta Vigo - on the BBC Sport website from 18:45 BST.

Glen Coley:, external What a man. Stuffed shirts at the FA were terrified of making him England manager. Can't help thinking that things would be different these days. He would have shaken it up.

Peter Stanway:, external Clough and Shankly - the greatest characters to manage football clubs, both sadly missed. Could listen to their one-liners all day. Cloughie couldn't stand cheats especially in his own teams. True legends.

Stoke boss Mark Hughes spent 10 difficult months in charge of QPR and was booed on his way back into Loftus Road for his side's game at his former club today.

"It was a difficult period, without a doubt (the toughest time of my managerial career)," said Hughes of his time in charge of QPR.

"We made changes that we thought were for the right reasons, would enhance the club and allow the club to be stronger for the future, but sometimes it does not come off and you have to hold your hands up.

"On paper the new players were very good, but the combination and dynamic of the changing room just didn't work, sometimes you cannot envisage that happening until you bring the group together.

"The feeling is maybe too many came in at the same time, but there was always going to be a big turnover. I just wanted to try to increase the quality."

David in Guildford: Eduardo's return to Arsenal whilst playing for Shakhtar Donetsk. The fans rightly applauded his goal (albeit Arsenal were four or five up at the time) and gave him a standing ovation. I'm still saddened about his post-injury decline. Such promise.

Andy from Armagh: Carlos Tevez wasn't given the greatest reception by the Old Trafford faithful when he returned with the 'noisy neighbours'. He had been their hero just two months before!

Andrew: I've never seen a bigger or warmer reception for an opposition player than the one Cristiano Ronaldo received from the Old Trafford crowd when he returned with Real Madrid in the Champions League in Sir Alex's last season. The crowd sang his songs all game, even when he scored against us!
