Mo, Manchester: Please someone explain how Gerrard, Lucas and Henderson is a solution. No legs to prevent counter attacks and absolutely no creativity. Isn't the midfield where the goals are suppose to be created from? Brendan Rodgers has to be to blame, pathetic team selection once again!

Tim, London: Sam Allardyce was bemoaning his side's inability to keep a clean sheet this season, but he won't care if they simply solve that problem by outscoring Champions League level opposition!

  3. Postpublished at 20:26 British Summer Time 20 September 2014

Sam Allardyce told BBC 606 earlier that his side's win "wasn't an off performance by Liverpool, it was a magnificent performance by my West Ham players".

Hard to argue with that. I've been impressed with what I have seen of them so far this season, with Allardyce's summer signings certainly improving the first XI.

Next up for the Hammers in the Premier League is Manchester United away and, with the change in style Allardyce seems to be implementing, it will certainly be interesting to see how they get on.

Adam Uba:, external Mario Balotelli or Danny Welbeck. Welbeck gives you defensive steel and energy even not scoring. Balo just goes missing altogether.

Stephen Collins:, external West Ham could teach Man United and Liverpool a thing or two about sensible transfers! Song, Amalfitano, Valencia. They've bought so well.

Michael Whyte:, external Can't wait to see Benzema, Ronaldo, Bale and Rodriguez up against Sakho and Lovren.

West Ham defender Winston Reid, speaking to BBC Sport: "I nearly missed, it was good to get a goal but the most important thing for the team was to get a couple of goals in front early on. That helped us settle and make it difficult for Liverpool.

"They had a midweek game in the Champions League so we wanted to start quickly. Fortunately enough that paid off and we got the result."

Rob, London: Liverpool played like a mid-table club. After the departure of Luis Suarez I thought the defence would have to bolt up and stop conceding goals. We seemed to have done the opposite. Top four looks unlikely and is probably a contentious prediction in Merseyside at the moment.

Liverpool trail leaders Chelsea by six points, and manager Brendan Rodgers added: "It's not ideal, it's a long old season but you don't want to be too far away from the pack.

"We were up there from the off last season so there is no doubt we have to improve and ensure we don't get detached at this early stage."

Nid:, external Liverpool were very lucky to get all three points against unknown Ludogorets in midweek. Today, their luck ran out.

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce speaking to MOTD: "When you see a gameplan work as early as that, it's brilliant. Liverpool had played in the Champions League for the first time in five years which is tiring and we wanted to start as quickly as we can. We said let's not let them control the tempo and press their back players. It worked brilliantly.

"From there on they only had one shot on target and we could have had three or four. It's a fantastic result and performance. I don't think anybody across the world of football can say that we didn't deserve that today."

Evening kick-offs have certainly not been good for Liverpool. They kicked off at 17:30 BST against Aston Villa last Saturday and at the same time today and they lost both games.

Good news though Brendan, Liverpool's game against rivals Everton next weekend is a 12:45 BST kick-off...

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers tells MOTD: "Overall we never showed the composure that is related to this team. We didn't start well.

"It was disappointing. We knew this would be a tough game but we were 2-0 down before we started. I thought we reacted well but we were risking the game at the end and unfortunately for us it was a day of too many mistakes.

"We're nowhere near the levels we expect to be at. The expectancy is raised for us after the last few seasons but at this moment in time we are not there. We will continue to work hard. We'll look to bounce back."

West Ham midfielder Stewart Downing, speaking to Sky Sports: "We worked hard throughout and in the end it paid off with the result. Diafra Sakho is an off the cuff type of player and has had some great finishes. I think he probably did mean it for his goal.

"We are a hard team to play against, with great pace and strong boys. It's nice to play against your old teams, but more importantly we needed a result. It was big for us to get something and the fans got right behind us. They were massive for us."

West Ham midfielder Mark Noble, speaking to Sky Sports: "We have worked on the shape of the team and in the first half we were fantastic. Liverpool were always going to give it a real go, but every one of us was bang on and we deserved the win.

"We were good on Monday against Hull and deserved a little more and we should have beaten Spurs in the first game of the season, but the performance out there has shown what we are capable of. We now need to make this place a fortress."

Kevin, Hornchurch: Liverpool in for long disappointing season as Suarez irreplaceable. Gerrard losing it as age catches up with him. Squad just not good enough to rotate weekly. Lucky to make top four this season.

Billy, Glasgow: Liverpool playing like a team that believes their own hype, turning up and expecting to stroll it. West Ham have been superior in every area, Liverpool have never been in it.

Sam, Kent: I doubted Sam Allardyce this season, I'm glad he's proving me wrong.

Bubbles fill the air as Upton Park enters party time. It is a first home win for West Ham, which moves them up to eighth in the Premier League table.

Liverpool, meanwhile, lose two consecutive league games for the first time since last December. It is also their third defeat in five league games.

They trail leaders Chelsea by six points and, with the Blues in action tomorrow, that gap could yet get bigger.

    Bradley Allen
Tottenham academy coach on BBC London 94.9

"Full credit to West Ham, it was their best performance of the season so far and they will win fans playing like this. It has been in an emotional week for Liverpool but this has been set up for West Ham. Returning to the Champions League, that level of football takes it out of you and Liverpool were not been able to live with West Ham's tempo this evening. There are things to ponder for Brendan Rodgers I think. A pulsating encounter."
