    Former Scotland international Pat Nevin: "If someone tells you it's a six-year plan, you plan it correctly, you don't throw money at it straight away. At Everton he never did it.

    "They should have told him if you don't get in the Champions League you're out, then he might have done it differently.

    "'Why should I spend £50m on a £30m player? I will make that money go further', he thought. It's a mistake because that's not the way football works. Louis van Gaal has seen what happened to Moyes and went out and brought in as many big names as he could."

    David Moyes has told the BBC he is "ready to return" to management following his sacking by Manchester United in April.

    The Scot, 51, was ousted at Old Trafford after less than 10 months in charge.

    "I'm really ambitious," he told BBC Sport's Dan Roan. "I would never have left Everton for anybody but an ambitious football club. And I thought Manchester United would have given me that opportunity."

    Rotherham extended Leeds United's run to four games without a win on Friday night as two second half goals won the Yorkshire derby at the New York Stadium.

    Leeds had led at the break through Mirko Antenucci, but goals from Alex Revell and Jonson Clarke-Harris secured the points for the home side.

    Rotherham manager Steve Evans said: "It was a hard-earned victory against a football club I have got enormous respect for. We beat a football club with a tremendous history but this was our night."
