  1. GREAT SAVE!published at 16:28 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2014

A few Tottenham fans start singing Harry Kane's name after Roberto Soldado shoots horribly over - and then the third striker in the Tottenham mixer has the chance of the game. Slid through, onside, Emmanuel Adebayor is one on one with Brad Guzan but his tentative shot is well turned away.

Good save, but a very tame finish.

  2. Player reactionpublished at 16:27 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2014

Pablo Zabaleta told BBC Sport: "When you play in these kind of games it's always difficult but I think we deserved that win.

"We know how much it means for the fans, for everyone at the club and especially for the players.

"In the last three games we have not performed well enough. Today was a huge game to win to get confidence back and because we can't drop any more points on Chelsea.

"That's the game everybody wants to win but we need to keep our feet on the ground and I think we can still improve.

"Now we have to think about the Champions League on Wednesday and another massive game for us and we need another great win."

  3. YELLOW CARDpublished at 16:26 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2014

Christian Eriksen goes into the book, for a very cynical challenge on Charles N'Zogbia - who's looking sprightly after his gap year last season. No idea how he spent his year away - backpacking in Peru? Picking fruit on a kibbutz? Hopefully he found himself...

Tottenham are pushing for a leveller, with Younes Kaboul causing a nuisance from a deep free-kick, he reacts well to bring down Nacer Chadli's dink but can't find the required power to beat Brad Guzan at his near post.

Ash Green:, external Do not adjust your sets, Aston Villa have scored a goal!

Rory:, external Etienne Capoue loses his man as he has done dozen of times before. I can't be the only Spurs fan wishing Sandro back!

Vinny Person:, external Keep playing a misfiring Roberto Soldado and it'll cost us points. We need a striker who can finish not just make the odd nice touch.

Villa's goal drought was finally ended at 547 minutes of football in the Premier League. To put that into context, the entire Lord of the Rings film trilogy clocks in at 558 minutes...

"Tottenham have looked shell-shocked in the last five minutes. Charles N'Zogbia broke free down the right and he actually plays it into Christian Benteke but Andreas Weimann, who made up about 30 yards of ground, slides in to provide a great finish. Younes Kaboul did not step towards the ball and Weimann made something of it."

  8. Postpublished at 16:18 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2014

It had been such an open start to the game that the goal was coming. What a relief at Villa Park for the home fans, who burst into song:"We're Aston Villa, we'll score when we want!"

  9. GOALpublished at 16:16 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2014

There it is! Two months of waiting comes to an end as Aston Villa finally score! It's a good goal too, Charles N'Zogbia beating his man on the right, looking up and picking out Andreas Weimann in the middle, he's on the stretch but toes it into the bottom corner.

  10. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 16:15 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2014

The drought is almost over! There are definitely black clouds on the horizon anyway, moisture in the air, the threat of thunder. Chance of precipitation...

Christian Benteke is the man making it all happen, he pulls away to meet a cross from the left and cannons a left-footer against the outside of the post from 15 yards out. Unlucky...

  11. Postpublished at 16:13 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2014

Former Republic of Ireland international Kevin Kilbane
BBC Radio 5 live at Villa Park

"A fully fit Christian Benteke could really hurt Younes Kaboul today. Kaboul is the real weak link in Spurs' defence. Benteke has looked sharper, there are signs his fitness levels are improving but he should at least hit the target with that header.

"Spurs have struggled away from home, while Villa's recent form has been dreadful, so something has to give today. Tottenham appear to have started the brighter of the two.

"The atmosphere here at Villa Park used to be excellent but today you don't feel that as much, and there are quite a few empty seats."

  12. CLOSE!published at 16:13 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2014

How has that stayed out? Ryan Mason starts it for Spurs, Emmanuel Adebayor tees up Christian Eriksen, his scuffed shot hits Nacer Chadli on the back to pop up in the air and Roberto Soldado has a free header- wide from four yards! Great chance.

  14. CLOSE!published at 16:12 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2014

Ten minutes in and it's clear to see there is a confidence vacuum in this Aston Villa side. They are slow to react to everything, no aggression or desire to hunt down Tottenham in possession.

Having said that - that's a very good chance! Matt Lowton whips in an early cross, Christian Benteke gets free of his marker to meet it with a flying header - but it's two feet wide of the far post. Good effort.

  16. Spit spat?published at 16:07 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2014

Louis van Gaal on suggestions Marouane Fellaini spat at Sergio Aguero in the game: "I have heard that there is a question on social media. When you shout sometimes a little bit of saliva is with it. I don't think he is a spitting figure."

  17. Postpublished at 16:07 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2014

It's been so long since Aston Villa scored that some of the fans behind the goal get a little over excited when Andreas Weimann flicks on a corner. It's not even remotely close guys!

Scotland had yet to vote on Independence last time Villa scored - that's how long ago it was...

Tom Thrall:, external I totally understand why we don't play Harry Kane, I... hmm... surely it's because... no wait... Actually sorry, I haven't a clue.

Rory:, external What a waste to see Christian Eriksen on the left. Put him in the middle and Andros Townsend on the left. No pace in the Spurs team at all.

James Buchanan:, external All I want this afternoon is a Villa goal. Any goal. Even if it comes via a 22-man scramble in the box following a corner.
