Keith, a Tottenham fan, says Harry Kane is "one of the best I've seen since Teddy Sheringham", and Erik Lamela "might even be better than Lionel Messi".

Sunderland have shipped some goals in the last few weeks and are contemplating big changes at Palace tomorrow night.

Full-back Anthony Reveillere could make his first appearance since joining as a free agent, while Costel Pantilimon may replace Vito Mannone in goal. Full coverage of that one right here on Monday evening of course.

Former Manchester City winger Trevor Sinclair, speaking to BBC World Service: "United were asking a lot of questions at the end and with 10 men on the field I thought that was a fantastic performance.

"The second booking Chris Smalling received was one where he thought he had to go to ground to try and win the challenge. I can sometime appreciate that defenders need to do that. The stupidity comes from the first booking and I think he will regret that, he will regret letting the team down.

"It was a very important win for City, they need to hang on to the tails of Chelsea. They have not had a bad patch. City have not played particularly well but are still only six points behind Chelsea. If City have a purple patch and Chelsea have a poor run, that could be when we see the title race pick up."

Mark: Who is Mauricio Pochettino trying to fool? (see 18:18) The only players to show character were the two academy players. Millions wasted on players that have no desire and passion. Harry Redknapp's team completely dismantled and the pride with it.

Oliver, London: Kevin should get a grip (see 18:25). When Daniel Levy took over Spurs were a mid-table side. Every season he gives more money for transfers than most Premier League teams. Also getting new stadium in the next few years. Harry Redknapp went because he continually touted himself for the England job during the season.

George, Sussex: Re: Matt in London and Danny Rose and Kyle Naughton being the worst right-back and left-back in the Premier League (see 74 mins). I think a few Liverpool fans would argue that the Glen Johnson and Jose Enrique axis push them close!

  6. Smalling sending offpublished at 18:47 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2014

Former Manchester United assistant manager Mike Phelan on BBC World Service: "Louis van Gaal is not far wrong with his use of the word stupid with regards to Chris Smalling's sending off.

"The first yellow was silly to get and then in the second instance it was a crazy decision. He takes him out of the game and there is nothing the referee he could do.

"On derby day it is all about who wants it the most. At one stage the game seemed to be totally even and no-one really wanted to step out of the comfort zone and go for the win. City got the goal and the expectation was for them to really go on and seal the win, but it never really happened and frustration set in among the home fans and that encouraged United. They could have come away with a draw."

Arsenal striker Alexis Sanchez scored twice as the Gunners picked up a 3-0 win over strugglers Burnley - and he was again singled out for praise by boss Arsene Wenger.

"It was a top performance from Alexis Sanchez," he said.

"His quality is exceptional, he takes responsibility and goes at people. He fights, he can score, that is what you want from great players."

Ian Wright on 606 talking about Jose Mourinho's comments about Stamford Bridge being too quiet: "The people who are going want to sit down and relax and chill. Watching a football match is different now to how it was back in the day. A lot of people go to see a great stadium and have a great day out and not shout. That is what it is turning into now."

Liverpool were poor again as they lost 1-0 at Newcastle.

Boss Brendan Rodgers wants Steven Gerrard to remain at Liverpool after his captain revealed he could leave in the summer having not been offered a new deal.

The 34-year-old, who is a one-club man, said this week that he would not be retiring just yet and could continue his playing career away from Anfield.

"I explained to Steven's representative that I want him to be part of what we're doing here," the Reds boss said.

"He's been a brilliant captain for me. I want to keep him here."

Rodgers added: "I relayed that information to the owners."

Surprise package Southampton remain in second place after Victor Wanyama's 45-yarder gave them victory at Hull.

Boss Roanld Koeman laughed off suggestions his side can win the league but he's on for a run at Europe.

"Maybe to play in Europe, you never know. Everybody knows we have to work hard every day and they players are incredible in the way they are acting together. If we keep like this, it can be a fantastic season."

Aston Villa goalscorer Andreas Weimann: "I thought we played them off the park in the first half but conceded two set pieces at the end. It was nice to score but it didn't mean anything because we lost. We need to turn the run around quickly.

"It is very frustrating. We produced one of the best performances of the season but conceded two silly set pieces."

So after another Premier League weekend - and with the delights of Palace v Sunderland to come on Monday night - what's the story in the top flight?

Chelsea are four points clear at the top of the table after they scraped to a 2-1 win at home to QPR. But manager Jose Mourinho was not happy - with his players, or his fans.

"At this moment it's difficult to play at home because playing here is like playing in an empty stadium," he said.

"When we scored was when I realised 'woah, the stadium is full. Good'."

Aston Villa's goal will make for some difficult watching back by the Spurs defenders. It came from a Spurs goal-kick! Hugo Lloris's kick was headed up the park by Nathan Baker, Danny Rose miscontrolled the ball at left-back and Charles N'Zogbia was away to cross for Andreas Weimann to finish.

    Horrible. And very preventable.

Matt Flecknoe:, external Surely the only thing to say is why Harry Kane is not starting in the Premier League? He is clearly Spurs' best striker by a mile!

Daniel Tinsley:, external If Spurs can be above Everton and Man Utd by playing awful, I very much look forward to when Mauricio Pochettino gets us playing well!

Kevin, Hornchurch: Result changes nothing. Spurs very poor. So let's review Daniel Levy's last three years. Harry Redknapp gets us to the last eight in the Champions League and fourth in Premier League only for Chelsea to deny us having won it. So Levy sets about dismantling the entire football fabric of Spurs. Three managers later and bordering on bottom three surely if he had any decency he would just go tomorrow. Position untenable 100% now. Just go please.

Coco, London: Credit to Mauricio Pochettino for his inspired substitutions. It was brave to take off Christian Eriksen at half-time but it paid off.

    Christian BentekeImage source, AP

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert, speaking to BBC Sport: "I thought we were excellent thought the game. Ok we lost but the red card changed the game. There were so many positives today but one disappointment.

"We were up against a good side but I thought we looked like the team likely to score but the way things are going sometimes, things go against you. Performance wise I could not have asked for more.

"Christian Benteke was showing great form, Tottenham could not handle him and it is disappointing with the red card. You cannot condone what he did but it is not like he threw a Mike Tyson punch. My daughter can punch harder than that."

Christian Benteke will have to learn not to react, says Paul Lambert, after his red card.
