Crystal Palace are getting the ball wide at every opportunity, with Yannick Bolasie and Wilfried Zaha swapping sides to keep Sunderland players on their toes. Bolasie swings in a cross for Marouane Chamakh, but he is beaten to the ball and Sunderland clear.

  2. YELLOW CARDpublished at 21:32 Greenwich Mean Time 3 November 2014

Time wasting already? Costel Pantilimon dithers while placing the ball for a goalkick and Phil Dowd's patience runs out. He marches towards the Sunderland goalkeeper and brandishes a yellow card.

David McNaught:, external A dislocated shoulder is the new fractured metatarsal.

    Crystal Palace 1-1 Sunderland

Another unwanted record for Sunderland, unless they can end their 12 years without a win on a Monday night...

  5. YELLOW CARDpublished at 21:25 Greenwich Mean Time 3 November 2014

Sunderland's Will Buckley has his name scribbled down in Phil Dowd's notebook for a foul on Wilfried Zaha and is shown the first yellow card of the game. Costel Pantilimon then does well to keep out Wilfried Zaha's effort. This could go either way.

John Pierce:, external That was some finish from Wes Brown. Got to be in his top three of own goals.

Tokunbo:, external Another game, another own goal. Wes Brown needs to get his act together.

  7. GREAT SAVE!published at 21:22 Greenwich Mean Time 3 November 2014

Santiago Vergini has got some shot on him. He has a crack with another drive from the edge of the area but once again Julian Speroni is equal to it, making a fine save to deny the Sunderland man. We've got a good game on our hands here.

  8. Postpublished at 21:21 Greenwich Mean Time 3 November 2014

It just goes from bad to worse for Wes Brown after he had gifted Alexis Sanchez the opener for Arsenal last week. He paid the price for that error by being dropped to the bench for this game. What must Gus Poyet be thinking?

"The ball is backheeled by Fraizer Campbell and straight into Wes Brown who can't believe he's turned it into his own goal. He lost his footing and fell into the ball as he tried to clear it and therefore had no control. Costel Pantilimon can't believe it either - he makes a good save from the first shot and then that happens. He ended up hitting his own post in frustration."

Oh my word Wes Brown! I was moments away from typing about what an impressive performance he was having but he goes and puts the ball in his own net.

Marouane Chamakh forces it as he connects with Wilfried Zaha's ball and fires a shot goalwards, Costel Pantilimon does superbly to save it, but Brown smashes the ball off the inside of the post and into his own goal.

Jack: As a Brighton supporter I always knew Sunderland were in luck when they got Poyet. A top class manager and will not only keep Sunderland in the Premier League, but with time will get Sunderland in the top half of the league.

Costel Pantilimon makes his first save of the game to deny Wilfried Zaha, but it was not too much trouble for the Sunderland keeper. Palace are attacking, but they need to find some more bite to their attack.

Scott Dann is on the sideline getting treatment for a nasty-looking cut above his eye. A quick change of his bloodied shirt and he is eager to get back into the action. Made of strong stuff that lad.

"It's decent defending from Sunderland. The corners coming into the box are good but they have made it difficult for Palace to get a decent header in without being under pressure."

  15. Postpublished at 21:09 Greenwich Mean Time 3 November 2014

There is probably an element of truth in that Gareth [see previous entry] as Wes Brown produces a fine block to deny Wilfried Zaha's drive and then heads away three successive Palace corners. The home side are straight on the front foot.

Crystal Palace have not managed a shot on target. Sunderland, meanwhile, have had four.

With stats like that, it is not looking promising for Palace in their hopes to level matters unless they up their game in the second half.

Here's a man who certainly knew how to equalise, however. Watch Palace legend Ian Wright score an equaliser against Man Utd in the FA Cup.
