Sunderland have not won a game on a Monday night for 12 years - that's a total of 20 games without a win in a Premier League weekend's final fixture. What are the worst unwanted records in football?

Dale Twigger: Think Derby County's 11 measly points is the worst record to have.

Connor Farmer: Arsenal not winning a trophy for 8/9 years, however long it was, was getting a bit annoying I'll admit.

Patrick Cooper: Richard Dunne's own goals record.

So, Vito Mannone pays for his mistakes in recent matches and is replaced in the Sunderland goal by Costel Pantilimon.

The Romanian has played two games in the Capital One Cup since moving from Manchester City - keeping a clean sheet against Birmingham but conceding two in a defeat against Stoke. French right-back Antoine Reveillere makes his Black Cats debut after signing as a free agent last month.

For Crystal Palace, Scott Dann is back in the team at centre-half in place of Adrian Mariappa.

No fans want to be inspired by a rival but seeing how those up the road have done might help ease concerns about Sunderland's current predicament.

A few weeks ago, Newcastle were seemingly a club in crisis and, like Sunderland are now, were sitting in the relegation zone. But wins against Leicester and Tottenham has lifted them out of the drop zone and level on points with a couple of sides in the top half of the table.

"It can change so quickly - look at Newcastle up the road. That's football," says Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole. "We can't get too carried away with a couple of bad results. We've all been here that many times."

"Sunderland fans old enough to remember their first campaign in the Premier League, the 1996-1997 season, may also recall it ended in heartbreak at Selhurst Park on the final day. Jason Euell's goal for Wimbledon (then Palace's tenants), combined with Coventry's surprise win at Tottenham, saw the Black Cats relegated.

"It is still too early to predict whether Sunderland's fate will go down to the wire this season, but it is fair to say there will be a few alarm bells ringing if they suffer a third straight defeat.

"Palace are a very decent side, and Selhurst Park is a tough place to go, with the home fans supporting their side until the very end. Sunderland have their work cut."

Nineteen years without a win at Selhurst Park and 12 since a victory on a Monday are pretty miserable runs for Sunderland, but how do they rank alongside other unwanted records in football?

Defeat to Manchester City on Sunday confirmed Manchester United's worst start to a season since 1986-87, while Richard Dunne became the all-time top own-goal scorer in Premier League history when he put the ball into his own net against Liverpool recently, taking his OG tally to 10.

  14. A pickle for Poyetpublished at 18:43 Greenwich Mean Time 3 November 2014

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has bigger concerns than refereeing decisions.

The Black Cats are out of form and seemingly out of confidence after they were on the wrong end of an 8-0 defeat to Southampton in their last away game, which was then followed by a 2-0 loss at home to Arsenal.

Sunderland currently sit inside the relegation zone having won just once all season, but victory at Selhurst Park would lift them up to 15th.

A couple of problems, though... they have not picked up three points at Selhurst Park for 19 years, and it is 12 years since they last won on a Monday...

  15. Warnock aims to keep quietpublished at 18:42 Greenwich Mean Time 3 November 2014

What has been really getting Neil Warnock's goat in recent weeks has been officiating at Crystal Palace's games.

The 65-year-old was recently charged with improper conduct by the Football Association after he said that referee Craig Pawson was "influenced" by Chelsea players during the Blues' 2-1 win at Selhurst Park.

Warnock is aiming to keep his mouth shut as much as possible from now on, though, saying: "I think it's great when you have got something to say. Unfortunately there is a time and a place to say it and I have to learn what I can say and when I can say it."

It seems Neil Warnock's life and Ed Sheeran have been intertwined for a couple of years.

In a 2012 column for the Independent,, external Warnock detailed his struggles in attempting to sort tickets to an Ed Sheeran gig for his daughter.

"Amy asked me to get some tickets for an Ed Sheeran concert in Plymouth," he wrote. "Come the time, we logged on to be told we could not book online but had to ring the box office. I think the website had crashed. We rang for an hour and 10 minutes. We eventually got through to hear a recorded voice that said 'sorry, all tickets have been sold'. It really is a disgrace...I felt really stitched up."

I half imagine that, upon learning Clattenburg had made a quick exit from Palace's game at West Brom to get to an Ed Sheeran gig, Warnock stood alone outside The Hawthorns, shaking his fist at the rain-filled sky shouting 'Sheeraaannn'. Or maybe not...

Neil Warnock spent as much of his pre-match news conference responding to questions about a telephone conversation with Clattenburg as he did previewing Sunderland.

Clattenburg made the headlines last week after it was revealed he breached protocol to zip off from the 2-2 draw between West Brom and Palace to attend an Ed Sheeran gig in Newcastle.

Aside from the concerning revelation of a 39-year-old man going to watch Ed Sheeran, it was also revealed that Clattenburg spoke on the phone to Warnock after the game, in which the Palace boss had been unhappy with a couple of incidents.

While my earlier supposition that the contents of the chat revolved around Warnock asking for tickets to the gig are unlikely, they are not quite as fanciful as you may think...

Hello! It's Monday night, it's Crystal Palace versus Sunderland.

This may not quite be the fixture that necessitates cancelling an invite to the pub for, but it nevertheless has the potential to be an intriguing contest.

Palace have not won a game since September, while Sunderland are smarting after conceding 10 goals in their last two games.

Both sides will be determined to get back on track tonight. Both will fancy their chances of victory.

When referee Mark Clattenburg spoke on the phone to Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock recently, that's probably not quite how the conversation went.

Whatever the actual contents of the chat were, we may never know, with Warnock instead keen to move on, external and focus on football.

After three games without a win, he knows Palace need to pick up points, starting with tonight's visit of Sunderland...
