Sunderland boss Gus Poyet, speaking to BBC Sport: "We did enough to win the game. It was a game that whichever side scored more than one goal would win. I never felt we were under pressure, where you want the final whistle to come. We cannot ask the players for more, we cannot be more organised but there is something missing at the moment and we need to find it.

"Luck helps, but we need to hit the target. When you have a break you need to put in a good cross. To play the football I want, at the moment we are quite far away. We are doing as much as we can at the moment.

"The first penalty decision looked very soft, but the second decision [when a free-kick was given when Alex Song handled on the edge of the area] I thought was a penalty. So we got one."

Curtis Nickle: As a Chelsea fan I'm glad Lampard's off back to New York soon, because he's a great player and if he stays at City much longer he will win them the title.

Nadeem Akram: Lampard to end season with a Premier League winner's medal.

Leslie Ingledew: Man City should sign him permanently. Class player.

    Final Score

"It's our job as pundits when we see games like the Chelsea game to ask managers whether players should be diving and whether they should be lucky to stay on the field. Steve Bruce is right with everything he says. Chris Foy bottled it today - Gary Cahill should have gone. Referee Chris Foy bottled it. What else would you call it?"

A big day for Newcastle keeper Jak Alnwick as he strides out for his first Premier League start. If, like me, you were wondering - he IS related to former Sunderland keeper Ben Alnwick.

What's your 'cold weather' attire at a game? One chap is in full Santa suit, plenty are in scarves and bobble hats while a few younger members of the crowd are going with the Arsenal shirt over the top of a sweatshirt. A classic layering option.

Two Newcastle fans are just wearing away shirts. Nothing underneath. Insanity...

  7. 'At Chelsea, we are clean'published at 17:23 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2014

More from Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho: "It didn't look like a physical game. The direct red card I didn't see on TV, I have no idea. The yellow cards, again from my position, it's difficult to judge… but I give the referee the doubt… we spoke last season about simulation because we had a situation last season and I was the first one to say to Oscar, against Southampton, that he has to stay on his feet but the reality is that many players from other teams do that too much.

"In Chelsea we are clean. Willian was in the middle of the pitch, so not even a reason to dive, and I don't think Diego's is a dive."

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho: "It was not a special performance, it was just a good enough performance. We were never in trouble. The 10 against 11 didn't change the game. As always Steve's team was very well organised, made it difficult but we scored early and I think the team felt quite comfortable and we never felt any danger.

"Eden Hazard is a great kid and he had a chance to rest midweek, so today we could see his freshness and it's always good to have on the pitch a player like him. John Mikel Obi also had a very positive performance. Once more a big player for us didn't play - this time Fabregas - and the people who replaced him assumed responsibility."

Hull manager Steve Bruce on Sky Sports: "It's difficult enough when you come here - we've got no problem getting beaten here, but when there's big decisions (go against you)...

"Firstly, you want to say what you genuinely feel, but I know how difficult the referee's job is. But after two yellows for diving… Gary Cahill's first challenge for me (in the first half) borders on being a red card, and then if he's not diving - that was the most blatant one of all and that's the biggest decision. I've no problem with Tom (Huddlestone) being sent off, I accept that.

"Tom knows he's better than that but it's frustration, he feels that the referee hasn't done his job properly. When you come to these big clubs and these big stadiums, you want the referee to do his job properly. We all know what Cahill is trying to do, he's trying to get a penalty."

Matt in London: I feel really sorry for Podolski. So underused at Arsenal despite the impact he has on every game he plays in. He was superb against Galatasaray, and he got two goals to show for it. He deserves and needs more playing time, otherwise Arsenal will really miss him when he leaves in January.

John P: Totally agree with Garth Crooks regarding the diving. It should be stopped. Managers and referees are the only ones who can do this...

A: Mourinho will come out with something sensationalist in the post-match interview to detract from criticism of his players. Getting tired of his antics.

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce, speaking to BBC Sport: "I wanted three points. I think the performances and chances created deserve that but we respect a point away from home in the Premier League. The overall performance from the players was excellent and you have to be satisfied when you come back from a goal down.

"It was not a penalty and it is as simple as that. It was given by the assistant referee and he got it horribly wrong.

"We created enough chances in the first 20 or so minutes to win two games. In the end, we respect the point but on the performance overall I think we deserved all three."

"Hull lost their discipline and their shape as soon as they suffered the Gary Cahill injustice. They got ragged, but in football you will have things that go against you. For an hour they were in the game but once that incident happened the match moved away from them and once Tom Huddlestone was sent off that was game over."

Paul Lambert, Aston Villa managerImage source, PA

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert: "I'm disappointed but I felt we did well with 10 men.

"The sending-off (Kieran Richardson) changed the course of the game. I don't think there was any malice in it but I can understand why the ref's sent him off. If you go in with your studs you leave yourself open for that.

"I think we are playing well at the moment. When you lose any game it's not nice. We have to regroup and go on. It's a boost to have Fabian Delph and Ron Vlaar back."
