"Derby winger Jordon Ibe wants the ball all the time. He comes in front the left when he gets it and looks a very confident player."

  3. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 19:58 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2014

Charlton made the better start, but Ipswich are now on the up and nearly took the lead through a David McGoldrick free-kick which beat the wall but ricocheted off the post.

Last-ditch stuff at the back from Leeds as Derby pile forward. The home side are building a head of steam here and Leeds need to get a grip. Jordon Ibe looks particularly lively down the left.

Keiren Westwood receives two minutes of treatment after a collision with James McClean but the Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper is fine to continue.

Jordon Ibe gathers possession behind Sam Byram down the left but his ball into the box is poor and gathered by Marco Silvestre. Derby are making most of the running. Leeds have yet to meaningfully venture into the home half.

  7. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 19:54 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2014

The ball does eventually go out of play and Leeds are back to XI with Gaetano Berardi coming on for Warnock. It will be like-for-like. Berardi is a right-back by trade but can play on the left.

Wigan won for the first time in nine outings in their last match and have a spring in their step at the DW Stadium, forcing an early corner.

The Latics sit second bottom and three points from safety before kick-off. A big night ahead for them you feel.

An early blow for Leeds as captain Stephen Warnock cannot continue. Swiss Gaetano Berardi will come on to replace him once the ball goes out of play.

"I played with Stephen Warnock at Blackburn, what a tenacious tackler he was but this does not look good for the Leeds captain. He's struggling. It looks like his ankle ligaments."

  11. Postpublished at 19:50 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2014

Warnock does not look in good shape. This will be a blow to Leeds as he's been one of their best players this season. Meanwhile, Derby swing over the corner but Leeds are able to hack it clear after a bit of pinball in the box.

  12. Postpublished at 19:49 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2014

As you'd expect, Derby have started on the front foot. They force the first corner from an attack down the right, which sees Leeds' Stephen Warnock turn his ankle nastily. The replay doesn't make it any prettier to watch.

"I think Derby will get promoted to the Premier League. They play the best football in the league. Sometimes they caught playing from the back but they have a great goalscorer in Chris Martin and pace out wide in Johnny Russell."

On the prospect of Newcastle manager Alan Pardew leaving the club: "Someone who is admired at St. James's Park is Derby manager Steve McClaren. Would McClaren want to leave derby, the solid club that they are, and swap it for the unpredictability of Newcastle?"

"You listen to a lot of managers and players, they say Derby are the best team they have played this season. They try to play out from the back and they will do that again tonight.

"Leeds are not great but the battle in the middle of the park between Leeds' Lewis Cooke and Derby's Will Hughes will be fascinating."

Speaking of managerial matters, former Newcastle and Norwich boss Chris Hughton has thrown his hat into the ring for the Brighton job, recently vacated by Sami Hyypia.

"It's a very good club and one that has a tremendous infrastructure," he told BBC Radio 4. "Anybody like myself that has been out for a while would be interested in that type of job."

So, Brighton fans, how about Hughton? Is he just what you need? Or is this just the same old faces cropping up time and again? Who else would you like to see down at the Amex? In keeping with the Palace approach, how about a former legend? Does anyone own an Adam Virgo-shaped Bat-Signal?
