"Manchester City are in trouble now. A despairing tackle from Eliaquim Mangala but it was all down to Yaya Toure losing the ball in midfield. It was a schoolboy error you're used to seeing in the local park, and Mangala has suffered for it. City have 15 minutes to manage this game out now, with a one goal lead."

  3. RED CARD FOR MAN CITYpublished at 15:03 Greenwich Mean Time 30 November 2014

Has Eliaquim Mangala just handed Southampton a lifeling? The City defender, already booked, picks up a second yellow for a foul on Shane Long. St Mary's comes to life again.

"Awful miss by Sergio Aguero (see 70 mins). Really needs to work on his finishing."

"Shane Long is a different proposition altogether for the Manchester City defence to cope with. This lad will put a real shift in over the last 20 minutes, he is a very hard working player. He reminds me a little of Sergio Aguero, although he doesn't score enough goals."

  6. TWENTY MINUTES LEFTpublished at 15:00 Greenwich Mean Time 30 November 2014

Twenty minutes left. Southampton need something special.

  7. CLOSE!published at 14:59 Greenwich Mean Time 30 November 2014

Southampton send on Shane Long but the action is at the other end of the pitch as Sergio Aguero squanders a chance from a James Milner corner. That was poor by the little man's standards. Nathaniel Clyne just about did enough to put him off.

  8. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 14:56 Greenwich Mean Time 30 November 2014

It's Franky time as Frank Lampard replaces Samir Nasri. One quality player replaced by another. Southampton have lost their way. They need something special. And fast.

Pablo Zabaleta escapes a yellow after a blatant foul on Sadio Mane. It presents Southampton with another set-piece opportunity which they are unable to make count. City counter and James Milner fires over after the Saints defence goes to sleep.

Southampton force two quick corners as they desperately attempt to haul themselves back into this. City's defence, well marshalled yet again by Vincent Kompany, is standing firm.

"It may be only temporary but Southampton have been knocked off their stride. They were giving it all their all and have still gone one goal down. It's a good time for Manchester City to capitalise now."

As it stands, City are second in the table, six points behind Chelsea. Who said the title race was over?

"Manchester City displaying patience before taking the lead and Southampton are behind at St Mary's for the first time this season. It's only the second goal they have conceded at home. There is stunned silence at St Mary's except from the corner where Manchester City's fans are, one supporter has let off a smoke bomb. This is a real test now for Ronald Koeman's men."

  15. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 14:45 Greenwich Mean Time 30 November 2014

Manuel Pellegrini reacts to his side going ahead by sending on James Milner. Stevan Jovetic comes off. Time for Southampton to show why they started today second in the table.

Kahill: Huge blow for Southampton after losing Morgan Schneiderlin. Victor Wanyama is already booked too and that will lead to less tackles in the midfield.

I bet Sergio Aguero is feeling a whole lot better now. He played a big hand in that goal. He'll feel justice has been done after being denied a blatant penalty earlier.

BBC Radio Manchester summariser Fred Eyre at St Mary's Stadium

"If Manchester City wanted anybody to be coming in on a ball like that, if Frank Lampard is not playing, then it would have to be Yaya Toure. He finishes so well from there. A brilliant goal, and unselfish play by Sergio Aguero to set him up."

When the going gets tough the tough get...you know the rest. Yaya Toure steps up to the plate to fire Manchester City into the lead against the run of play. It's a fine finish from the edge of the area, with the aid of a slight deflection off Toby Alderweireld, following Sergio Aguero's pull back.

Dominique, Taunton: I hope Southampton can win this game to silence some of the critics with regards to their ability to stay at the top end of the league. It's time they were taken seriously as a club. They do so much for English football through an excellent youth scheme which has produced some outstanding players over the years. Would be great to see them in Europe, well deserved after two consistent seasons despite fundamental changes.
