"It took 20 minutes but Saints finally tested Joe Hart and it has sparked everyone into life on and off the pitch with the home side now on the offensive, manager Ronald Koeman urging winger Sadio Mane to push forward. At the other end Toby Alderweireld shows his worth with a fine double block. This is warming up nicely.
"Victor Wanyama however, is in danger of an early bath here. 'Someone close by needs to get around him and say, hey settle down,' advises Dave Merrington on BBC Radio Solent."

"Stevan Jovetic goes close but there have been chances at each end - Southampton have come back into it in the last few minutes and the game is now pretty even. Early on Manchester City had the better play, but it would have been even better if Sergio Aguero had been awarded the penalty."
So close for City. And I mean CLOSE. Sami Nasri releases Stevan Jovetic who shoots beats Saints keeper Fraser Forster but Toby Alderweireld is in the right place to hack the ball clear. Southampton breathe a sight of relief.
Cheers echo around St Mary's as Sergio Aguero - 12 Premier League goals in 12 appearances, finds row Z from distance.
Stu, Cheshire: How terrible. A referee, a human being, seeing an incident once, at full speed, makes an error (see 9 mins)!
Paul, Mill Hill: Although it was obvious today, diving in football means referees will struggle. The players have themselves to blame when they don't get decisions.

City just edging this in terms of possession. But Southampton have their tails up. Another Saints free-kick is pumped into the City area and Joe Hart is fouled while attempting to punch it clear. Very little between the two sides.
Kevin Logan: If Sergio Aguero doesn't go down so dramatically he gets the penalty (see 9 mins). Simple.
Alex Corps: That's the problem with a diving culture. When there is a foul, you don't get it. Know the story about the boy who cried wolf?
KA Ramirez: There's nothing special about Eliaquim Mangala. Why didn't Manchester City keep Micah Richards? Could have saved a lot of money!

No goals but 2-1 to City on bookings as Eliaquim Mangala is the latest to be cautioned for a cynical challenge on Dusan Tadic.

"It was a very good stop by Joe Hart but I think he should have come for the cross. Fortunately for him he stuck a reflex arm out and stopped the shot. Southampton should have definitely taken the lead, and against teams like City, you have to take chances like that."
How did that stay out? Chaos in the City penalty area as they fail to clear a long ball into their area. Graziano Pelle is unable to connect but the ball falls to Steven Davis who forces a low one-handed save from Joe Hart. Saints have the momentum.

Fascinating start here at St Mary's. Manchester City dominating possession with Southampton attempting to play on the break, but with little success. Frustration already starting to show among the home supporters who have not been used to this type of game or performance this season.
"Saints have got to play higher up the pitch, they're playing far too deep and inviting pressure," former Southampton manager Dave Merrington tells BBC Radio Solent.
City aren't allowing that controversial Sergio Aguero incident to affect them. Aguero to Samir Nasri to Yaya Toure who brings a save from Fraser Forster. If anything, Mike Jones's decision has fired up the boys in blue.
Mich, Leeds: The award for worst referring of the weekend right there. A blatant foul and clear penalty. Instead the referee books Sergio Aguero for a dive.

Manuel Pellegrini is a picture of calm sat in his seat in the City dug out. I suspect he is seething inside.
Harry Hopwood: Shocking decision from the ref. Not only was it a stonewall penalty but a yellow card for diving? Rubbing salt in the wounds!
Gwilym J James: That's an absolutely ludicrous decision, and now Sergio Aguero's going to be at risk of a second yellow for the rest of the match.
Aidan Mifsud: Aguero just got booked for having the cheek to allow his legs to be kicked out from under him. Terrible.

You're going to hear an awful lot more about that challenge on Aguero. Yes, the City man could went down theatrically but there was definite contact. I suspect Manuel Pellegrini will be having a word with Mike Jones later.

"That decision looked very harsh for me. If that is not a foul then I would like to know what is. And to be booked for it as well? Jose Fonte has missed the ball! What a terrible, terrible decision. What else can you say?"
Astonishing! Sergio Aguero on his 100th Premier League appearance is booked for diving after a challenge by Jose Fonte just inside the Southampton penalty area. Augero can't believe it. TV replays show it was a clear penalty.
Helter-skelter, 100mph start. Neither keeper has yet to be tested. Yaya Toure powers forward but is sent sprawling by Victor Wanyama. And it's a booking for the Saints man. More importantly it's a free-kick in a good area for City.
