  5. Remember Robins?published at 19:40 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2015

    Mark Robins

Scunthorpe's manager will be familiar to many of you - especially any Manchester United fans.

Boss Mark Robins will have a lasting place in FA Cup folklore after playing a very important part in winning the trophy for United in 1990, which was the first trophy of manager Alex Ferguson's reign at the club,

In January 1990 a large part of Manchester United's supporters wanted Alex Ferguson out of the club and defeat away to an in-form Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup seemed a distinct possibility - and the rumour was such a result would be Ferguson's last in charge.

Robins nodded in the only goal of the game, United went on to lift the cup and the rest is history for Sir Alex.

Everton have struggled defensively this season, having conceded 33 times in the Premier League, and - as we have already told you (see 18:57) - are without influential left-back Leighton Baines.

Versatile Costa Rica international Bryan Oviedo should replace him, with centre-back Sylvain Distin slotting in for the suspended Antolin Alcaraz. Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku also starts as the Toffees make three changes.

West Ham midfield pair Kevin Nolan and Mark Noble start in place of African duo Alex Song and Cheikhou Kouyate, who are away on international duty.

Top scorer Diafra Sakho, who has also left for the Africa Cup of Nations, and England striker Andy Carroll are the other changes made by Hammers boss Sam Allardyce. Ecuador forward Enner Valencia and winger Matt Jarvis come into the team.

  8. Toffees feeling the bluespublished at 19:37 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2015

West Ham may have struggled over the last couple of weeks but most fans will be more than happy with the current seventh place in the Premier League.

Everton fans on the other hand... The Toffees have won only one of the last nine matches to leave them 13th in the Premier League table and just four points above the relegation zone.

Roberto Martinez could desperately do with some FA Cup salvation.

  9. Testing times for Big Sampublished at 19:35 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2015

Looking forward to the Africa Cup of Nations? Yep, so am I. (You can follow live text commentary of every match in the tournament on the BBC Sport website).

One man who has been dreading the start of the competition though is Hammers boss Sam Allardyce, with his squad decimated by international call-ups.

The Hammers are without midfielders Cheikhou Kouyate and Alex Song, who are away at the Africa Cup of Nations, while striker Diafra Sakho is also set to depart for international duty at the tournament in Equatorial Guinea - after further tests on a back injury which could rule him out of contention for Senegal's squad.

After sitting fourth in the Premier League at Christmas, the Hammers picked up just one point from three games in the festive schedule. Testing times for Big Sam.

There's a big game in Serie A tonight, with leaders Juventus hosting Inter Milan knowing victory would move them three points clear of second-placed Roma and 12 ahead of Lazio in third.

Inter could hand a debut to Lukas Podolski, with the on-loan Arsenal striker taking his place on the bench for tonight's match.

  11. Manager's viewpublished at 19:30 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2015

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce on BT Sport: "With our three African Cup of Nations players away, and Andy Carroll missing, it is the strongest team we could pick today.

On the absence of Alex Song (see 18:54) and Andy Carroll: "We're not certain if Alex Song is staying there with Cameroon for the whole tournament or not - there is a bit of confusion. Andy kicked the floor in training and his foot is a bit sore. If he had played today it would have got worse."

  12. Scunthorpe make historypublished at 19:28 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2015

    Penalty shootout

Scunthorpe have stamped their name in FA Cup history this season after being involved in the longest penalty shootout in the competition's history to beat non league Worcester in the previous round.

In a breathtaking tie of 54 chances, the League One side won 14-13 after 32 penalties had been taken. They will hope for a simpler victory this evening.

  15. Manager viewpublished at 19:24 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2015

Everton boss Roberto Martinez, whose team have lost their last four Premier League matches, talking to BT Sport: "The FA Cup is a welcome distraction - it is the best domestic cup competition in world football. Today is a proper cup game between two teams, who will be playing on the front foot and looking to score goals. We know it will be a really open game.

On missing left-back Leighton Baines: "He picked up a knock in the last game. It is nothing serious, but we're taking no risks. I don't expect him not to be available at the weekend."

Chesterfield have already had a roller-coaster of an FA Cup run after being made to replay their second-round tie against fellow League One side MK Dons.

The Spireites won 1-0 away at Stadium MK but were made to play it again after fielding an ineligible player, with on-loan Wolves defender Georg Margreitter not having written permission to appear in the match.

I'm sure the paperwork will be checked and double checked this evening.
