    Stats

Barcelona dominated possession but, huge credit to City, they came back at their visitors in the second half to give themselves half a chance. A Luis Suarez brace, a sending off, a missed penalty and a Sergio Aguero strike - a good night's entertainment.

On Samir Nasri walking straight down the tunnel after being substituted: "It's not good. The fans see it. Manuel Pellegrini speaks his mind so we'll see what his says about that.

"Before the game, Nasri had refused to compare himself to Andres Iniesta and he was right. Tonight, he was more like a Ford Fiesta."

Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart, speaking to ITV: "I hope so [that the penalty save could prove crucial]. We will go there with a great group of fans, belief and we will have a right go.

"We pressed until the first goal and panicked a bit. We regrouped second half, put a lot of pressure on and were good for our goal and maybe good for a result tonight.

"The occasion did not get to us, sometimes things go against you. It is 2-1 and we go there with belief.

"Luis Suarez is a fantastic player, he took his goal well."

There has been plenty of chat that Luis Suarez hasn't been firing since moving to Barcelona. Okay, he may not be the kingpin these days, with the likes of Lionel Messi and Neymar alongside him but he is still some player. His two goals leave City with a huge job on their hands in the Nou Camp in a few weeks time.

"Give credit to City, they stuck at it and held on for 2-1. Overall, you have to say Barcelona are far superior to City.

"They've been made to look quite average in the first half. They showed grit and determination and got them a goal to keep them in the tie but they will have to play very well in the second leg to have any chance.

"Messi will be absolutely devastated with his penalty miss. He's a perfectionist."

The final whistle sounds as Lionel Messi still has his head in his hands. Advantage Barcelona but it could have been so, so much worse for Manchester City. We still have a game on our hands in Spain.

  10. PENALTY SAVEDpublished at 21:36 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2015

Manchester City still have hope. Lionel Messi steps up, gives the goalkeeper the eyes and has his low penalty saved by Joe Hart to his left. The ball is parried straight back to Messi who, with a open goal gaping, sends a diving header wide. He is human.

In the dying seconds Pablo Zabaleta needlessly chops down Lionel Messi in the penalty area.

Lionel Messi delicately chips the ball over Joe Hart and into the net but he is marginally offside. Lovely finish though. Three minutes of injury time.

That sending off has killed the atmosphere at Etihad just when it looked as though we were going to get a ripsnorter of a last 20 minutes. Barcelona are coasting through the last few minutes and City look as though they are happy with the score as it is - well as happy as they can be.

Barcelona are still looking the more likely to add another. Substitute Adriano has a shot blocked from 20 yards. The yellow shirts know another goal and it is almost job done.
