Eddie: City need to up the tempo and turn this into an Premier League-type game to have a sniff at getting something out of this. Barca stuck in gear two.

Kofi Tawiah Quansah: This game is crying out for Bony.

John Dykes: If City can get one we'll see how real the talks of Barca's crisis of confidence are. Next goal vital.

Gael Clichy is booked as he lumbers towards Ivan Rakitic and lazily brings him down. So slow from the City man.

The ball is dollied into the penalty area, Barcelona fail to clear but Martin Demichelis heads straight at Marc-Andre ter Stegen. City need to take advantage of one of these chances.

City suddenly look like they are a match for Barcelona. Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Samir Nasri are running off Edin Dzeko and the visitors look a little bit fragile. Free-kick to City 35 yards out....

Mickey Wallis: Barca will be happy to restrict City to corners, whilst they may only need one clear cut chance themselves to dump city out.

Snoi: Throw Barca into the Premier League all year and they'd look ordinary. All we're seeing here is Man City fear factor and Pellegrini's naivety!

Saidmadrid: City's squad is victim of the coward tactics of an overwhelmed coach who fears Barca.

It would be easy to write City off here but remember Bayern Munich? The Premier League champions have the players to hurt Barca, they just need to start showing it. They have started this half a lot better.

Sir Alex Ferguson looks like a man in disguise as he watches under his flat cap at Etihad. All he is missing is a fake moustache.

"You have to say Barcelona have started the second half terribly. They're just jogging around.

"Give City credit they've started well and Dzeko should have got a goal back. At this level, against this type of opponent, you have to score chances like that."

  10. CLOSE!published at 20:53 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2015

City are gathering up a head of steam. Edin Dzeko finds David Silva in the penalty box, he pulls it back to Samir Nasri but his goalbound shot is blocked by Javier Mascherano.

A corner is forced, Vincent Kompany flicks on to find Dzeko is acres of space just yards from goal. Anywhere apart from at the goalkeeper and that is a goal but his header is into the hands of Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

"Pellegrini would have said 'I want to see more energy from you' to his players - not just one or two but all of them. Set pieces could play a big part if they're to have any chance."

That's better from City as a corner is floated in from the left and Edin Dzeko heads wide. That is where to hurt Barcelona.

  13. KICK-OFFpublished at 20:48 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2015

Back under way at Etihad. This would be one of European football's greatest stories if City manage to get out of this hole.

James Watson: Joe Hart is having a blinder. The same, however, can't be said for his team-mates.

Durand Dsouza: City surely should remember the cake next year. Nothing without Yaya.

Kanayo Umeogu: City getting bullied and overrun so easily. This shows how weak our darling Premier League is.

Remember this Barcelona side lost to Malaga in La Liga last time out, with questions being asked about the morale of Luis Enrique's men. I'd hate to meet a confident Barca then...

Where does Manuel Pellegrini go from here? Barcelona's two-goal lead barely does justice to how superior they have been. Vincent Kompany has been taken to the cleaners by Luis Suarez, City are ineffective in midfield and once again Pellegrini's ploy of playing two up front against world-class opposition has been brutally exposed.

    Other than that....

"City should just go shape for shape with Barcelona. They might be individually better but at least City would know what they're meant to be doing if they're man for man.

"As it is, Barcelona are winning the midfield battle and Andres Iniesta looks fantastic."

Mutias Bonnke: Pellegrini always downplays the importance of Yaya but we all know the truth, he is their engine and it's time they admitted it.

Blake Keeble: Watching Messi play is just extraordinary looks like he is barely trying.

Abhishek: Silva is the only player who would get anywhere near this Barca team.
